Swan Inn Motel

The service is great! The manager has been super accommodating and helpful with everything we’ve needed. The room is nice, albeit a bit small. Good working AC ( at least in our room). Everything was good. :)

Stay very far away from this place. there are roaches, bed bugs, and other bugs, that are very untreated. the ac units have black mold inside them, and leak into the rooms, causing more mold issues. the rooms aren't cleaned, at all, between visitors, amd they make the beds using the same bedding, without being washed. The owners, Gary and Tony, are very big clowns, and don't care if your room is dirty. Derek, the property "manager" allows his children to run around the building and do whatever they want, and destroy property, as well as, run around naked. The bqck building has 8 rooms of drunks that yell, scream, slam doors, pour beer all over your stuff, and throw lit cigarettes everywhere. The cops are here, because of the drunks, more than 10 times a day. The pool isn't open, as advertised, and never will be. The, also, have a bqckyard puppy mill being ran outside of one of the rooms, and none of the residents clean up after their dogs, so you'll be walking in puddles of beer and piles of dog crap no matter where you walk. The place doesnt have working smoke detectors. They recently had a fire in the laundry room, because the property manager's 13 year old set towels in fire, on purpose, while unattended, and threw them in the dryer, setting the building on fire. Several of the dogs here are not vaccinated and 2 have been known to have parvo.

I went to the motel with my boyfriend (my restaurant review is on the other profile page on this site), which I’ve done every few years when I visit my aunt in the area. The last time I stayed, it was a very quiet, maintained/clean, safe place to stay. Boy was I in for a surprise… There were people living in the motel as if it were an apartment. Loud music, junk all over the balcony, trash all over the lot and lawn, and drunken yelling at night and early morning. I say morning because there were kids running around with no supervision at 1 or 2 in the morning. I should have been sleeping but the noise woke me up…I thought there were curfews? Then the cops showed up which I’m guessing is a regular thing there based on how casual they were from what I could see. I didn’t feel safe. I hope anyone that looks here in the future doesn’t look too long and finds a better place. I can’t even imagine the bedbug situation. I did buy some cheap sheets down the road because I didn’t trust what was in there and it was too late to get my money back. It also seemed that everyone living there had at least a dog or two and smoked a ton of cigarettes. I didn’t see anyone cleaning the rooms, either.

Have only stayed in a room there once; came to town last-minute and and there was some convention in town and rooms were hard to get and where I usually stay was booked. The room reminded me of a typical 1950s or 1960s Northern Michigan motel, some still exist , older decor , just a handful of channels on a simple tv, no frills, but everything clean and nothing was broken. So compared to a big ticket hotel I'd only give it one or two stars simply because no frills but for an old but very clean and SAFE inexpensive motel on an old time state highway turned ***** mall/ fast food road, and you're just there for 8 hours' sleep and Gone, Five stars. NO sketchy characters lurking around; management is family or friends I think and they watch everything like a hawk. On to the diner that comes with the property : Definitely Five stars for its type, a Grand Rapids classic from another era. Vegan , no gluten , macrobiotic , whatever funky fare, ? I know nothing about whether they do that but for traditional pancakes & bacon ( which the couple next to me washed down with rum & Cokes, Har ! Try it !) , oatmeal , scrambled eggs in the AM, and similar Ma & Pa fare afterward, Perfect. A " Men wearing hats and caps indoors" type place as a Grosse Pointe girl we knew called it ; so don't come in with an attitude. And don't be demanding. Those in the know in Grand Rapids, many of whom haven't been in a motel since a family trip to the beach in Tawas City after Fourth Grade in the 1960s, but who appreciate a low key , unpretentious ( and patriotic, to boot !) spot, swear by this place for the simple but generous meals and no-nonsense but kind people who work there. It's somewhat like Loveless Motel & Cafe in Nashville, tourists welcome but locals are still there in droves, don't put on airs and make demands and just enjoy some old-time comfort food.

Stayed there this Labor Day weekend. Since last year the place is filled w/full time residents. Rooms chairs outside doors along w/trash. Even a tied up dog to an outside door jam. Room was clean & accommodating. You get what you pay for, I should of drove around property before staying.

It was your normal hotel room. The bed was a bit hard. Looks clean. Could’ve had an extra set of towels. Was nice and quiet. Overall it was good for him just to stop over place.

A no frills old timey motor lodge feel. Quiet location, not updated but if a bed and indoor plumbing is what you desire then this is the place. Pleasant check in and out.

This was a older motel but very, very clean. Beds were comfortable. There was a restaurant in the same parking lot which made it is to get breakfast in the morning and the food and service was great. The price was much lower than anything else around. We would book again. Safe area too

Quaint little older hotel with attached restaurant ... room was clean ... service was helpful ... price was lower than anywhere else in the area ... was great for a 1-night business trip
