I lived in the town before and used this pub only stayed 1 night food and beer excellent and all staff very friendly it's in the best location if I am ever in Chelmsford again would be my first place to call on

さすがに古い建物でエレベーターがなく。2階の部屋でしたが優しいお兄ちゃんがスーツケースを持ってくれました。お向かいの中華料理屋さんもなかなかよかったです。

Very disappointing visit today. 2 meals ordered and 1 turned up 10 minutes before the 2nd and the 2nd (roast) was luke warm and soggy. 1st meal was cold also by the time it turned up and the braised pork skin wasn’t even possible to cut or chew it. Will not be eating there again but the Guinness is good.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was ample - plenty of storage spaces, decent size, really comfy beds and clean throughout. Check in/out was straightforward. We really enjoyed our stay even though it was just one night. Thank you.

I booked to stay here as I was going to the theatre and this is really close to there and the train station. The lady who checked us in said they're renovating which may explain the mound of rubbish we had to walk past to get up the outside stairs to access the rooms (you don't go through the pub to get to the rooms). Our room was nice (well stocked tea tray) and the bed really comfy and the shower was nice and powerful. There is a lot of stairs and to find the room was a bit of a maze (even though our room was above the bar), the hall smelt fusty and needs to have windows open in the daytime although I appreciate in winter that would make the place cold. I didn't like the fact that the outer door doesn't close automatically so anyone could walk into the building from the car park next to the pub, and it was also very noisy at night - its a busy road and also the other guests were loud and kept slamming doors and shouting on their phones in the corridor but that's not the pubs fault. I think for the price breakfast should be included.

It's been many years since I last ate and drank at The Ship, when I worked in Chelmsford. Fancying a change from our usual eaterie I suggested it to my one-time colleague and we went there. The place was busy, warm with a lively atmosphere but we found a table. I had the pan-fried skate wing, which arrived breadcrumbed and served with new potatoes and French beans. My chum had the sausage and mash. To follow it was chocolate fudge cake and banana cake respectively, accompanied by ice cream. We drank the reliable St. Austell Brewery Tribute Ale and reminisced until it was time to leave for our respective trains. Recommended.

My wife and I had lunch here on two consecutive days while attending the Essex cricket match. The food was freshly prepared on each day. The lamb shank on the first day was excellent and arrived with a good range and portion of vegetables. The baked potato on day two had a good portion of tuna and salad. I had the IPA on each day. Lovely atmosphere in the venue. No loud music.

I have a very nice, clean and spacious room. It would be even nicer if there was a sink in the room, but it's fine for a short stay. Luckily, the shared facilities are kept clean. Location is perfect so I would definitely recommend it to my friends.

Stayed in what’s laughingly called the hotel. Room stifling and windows painted shut. Road noise until the small hours. Bathroom was dirty and the shower seemed to be on a pump arrangement and made weird noises. . Only good think was the coffee pod machine

Absolutely fantastic! We came here twice for the breakfast that you have too offer. Truly was a brilliant breakfast! There was so much too choose from, and all around a fabulous experience! Would definitely recommend anyone too come and experience it yourself, the service was fabulous too! Would 100% come back 😊
