Le Barn

I'm biased as I really love the Barn and it's idea to offer an escape from Paris into "nature"; it's the perfect place to decompress from the speed, intensity, noise of the city, if you like to slow down a bit. Stay for a weekend or a night, come by car or train, drop your suitcase in one of the beautiful designed rooms and get started with a walk around the premises: a big garden, horses and a small forest welcome you. enjoy the coffee, the meals and take photos, as they are all instagramable... The kitchen tries to cater to the taste of city people in serving home grown or locally sourced vegetables, fruits, bread ... with adapting country side recipes, which turns out to be usually delicious and inspiring to your tastebuds; however don't forget to walk or exercise as the plates are rather rich. The team is super welcoming and accommodating, just ask and they'll take care of you. WIFI and network are quite good, so you have to discipline yourself to detox... and sometimes there is a nice party in the evening.

We really wanted to like this place, but it was one of the worst experiences we’ve ever had at a Hotel. We stayed at Le Barn for a week. We were getting out of the city in search of nature and peace. Firstly, Le Barn is difficult the reach without a car. There is no connecting shuttle between the closest train station and the hotel. They charged us €25 to be picked up from that train station, a 15 minute drive, and we were charged €30 back... The lobby was helpful, but the restaurant was a disaster. Their menu system was completely broken, they force you to use a QR-code website, many of the items were not available, orders would get mixed up, or arrive with completely different ingredients. There seemed to be no presence of management. Staff were unavailable. Most seemed inexperienced, confused and rude. We constantly had to request basic things like water and butter. They often never arrived. Orders would come at random times. Drinks often long after food. Other guests were clearly frustrated by the lack of competence. We witnessed one complain only to be argued back at by staff. Breakfast was mediocre during the week, they add more things on the weekend. As other reviews have mentioned, there were wasps flying all over the buffet. It was not a tranquil experience. There was heavy machinery doing construction by the lake, forcing us to leave. The hotel was filled with groups doing teambuilding activities - separate from the guests. They had their own food, drinks. They frequently blasted loud dance music in the afternoon, ruining the ambiance. Because of these activities, there was no space to work at the hotel, only a loud lobby area. There aren't even any comfortable seats in the garden, only a few camping chairs. The room was fine, but our bathroom had a plumbing problem and stunk of stale water. Cleaners never replaced toilet-paper, tea or coffee. I could go on and on… For the amount you pay you should get kinder service, good food and the tranquility of the French countryside promised on their website. I don’t recommend anybody stay here.

We checked in after a long car journey and were pleasantly surprised by Le Barn - it was all we'd hoped for with plenty of outdoor space for our dog to stretch her legs and a relaxed feel that meant she could accompany us for drinks on the terrace and a very nice dinner in the bistro. Unfortunately it's the bedrooms that let this place down, the door to the room is external and goes straight into the bedroom. It's functional and utilitarian in design, not massive (but then we didn't book the most expensive room). We travelled in Spring so it wasn't super hot but we could have done with some fresh air in the night and there is no air con, ceiling fan or ability to open a window (there are none). Opening the door to the outside isn't an option when you're travelling with a dog or children (as many of the other guests were). Whilst I understand the environmental reasons for not having air conditioning, not being able to open a window is surely a massive design flaw. We had intended to use this place regularly as a pit stop on our journeys between the south of France and the UK but the thought of a room here in the height of summer with no air con or windows fills us with horror. What a shame, could have been perfect...

Such a disappoin**ent! Beautiful setting and stylishly designed, but already shabby and the food was a shocker - overcooked, oversalted and cold. The staff was friendly, but there weren’t enough of them to provide decent service. The room was dirty - stained carpet and an ashtray full of cigarette butts on the balcony. The “hot” tub was luke warm (at best) and the whole place just felt quite sad! We checked out early forfeiting the cost of our second night rather than stay on.

Absolutely beautiful place to eat, beautiful seating and great staff, we went whilst it was raining in mid November but it still made us feel very cozy. Totally recommend for a great time spend with friends or family. Loved it

An amazing spot in a beautiful countryside setting! We were recommended this place by friends who live local to the area. Staff are friendly and a wide drinks option is available. The place is situated with stunning countryside scenery, including a large lake, forests, fields and wildlife, with the stunning horses catching your eyes as you make your way into the gates. A really peaceful setting and highly recommended for a visit if you happen to be in the area.

Une équipe au grand cœur, tant dans l'assiette que dans les services de l'hôtel : tout est juste. Un séjour hors du temps, promettant détente et dépaysement. Vous y rencontrerez des professionnels, aimant leurs métiers, et les réalisant avec brio. Les chambres sont authentiques et plus qu'agréables, la cuisine est délicieuse et le spa vraiment relaxant. Résultat : des estomacs bien remplis, du repos à n'en plus finir. Un sincère merci à toute l'équipe du Barn !

Excellent séjour au Barn ! Le site est magnifique, en pleine nature, avec un accès direct à la forêt, le tout au milieu des chevaux. Les chambres sont très sympas, nous avions une très belle vue sur l'étang et la forêt, très dépaysant dès notre réveil. Nous avons particulièrement apprécié l'accueil et la gentillesse du personnel. Nous avons profité des vélos, des bains nordiques et des cours de yoga très qualitatifs ! Nous reviendrons, c'est certain !

C'est frustrant de devoir dire ainsi du mal d'un endroit où les équipes se donnent du mal pour nous recevoir. Mais très sincèrement, plus de 70 chambres donc près de 200 invités avec avec des espaces communs aussi limités, avec un restaurant très vite complet, des équipes sympas mais débordées, sans piscine, sans tennis, sans salles pour enfants, c'est très délicat de résoudre l'équation. D'autant plus que la compétition est rude avec l'ouverture récente de l'abbaye des Vaux-de-Cernay et bien sûr avec le Château de Villiers le Mahieu - Les Maisons de Campagne qui sont incomparablement mieux et pour un budget très proche.
