1863 Restaurant with Rooms

Beautiful room just perfect for our one night stay. So much attention to detail. We had the seven course tasting menu in the restaurant and it was fantastic, ended up having 10 courses in total! Great food and great presentation. The staff were very attentive

We celebrated our wedding anniversary here 2 evenings ago and had booked a room, 3 course dinner and breakfast package. I was absolutely blown away by the whole experience, and it far exceeded any high expectations I already had. The room was beautiful with lots of beautiful welcoming touches. The welcome was so warn amd friends day and this continued throughout our stay. The staff were wonderful. The quality of the food was truly exceptional and I have eaten in quite a few highly regarded restaurants.across the years. I loved the glass of wine pairing suggestion with each course, which we had with ou r starter and main courses. The breakfast too was marvelous and I would highly recommend the kipper where my.husband would certainly praise the full breakfast! The atmosphere was warm, friendly and relaxed and we loved every moment . We would absolutely certainly return. I should also say that I have a severe wheat intolerance and the restaurant were well able to happily accommodate this. They had baked me my own special bread roll, which was the best I've ever had. Thanks go to the whole team .

Lovely little village with three pubs. We stayed in room 6 which was brilliant, staff were lovely. Dinner wise we had mushroom and mackerel to start followed by halibut and venison, gorgeous. Strawberry and chocolate desert rounded it off, nice wine, and choice of cocktails. Breakfast was excellent too. We will be back.

My wife and I had a two night stay. in room 6. the was very well appointed bright and comfortable. Fresh coffee was available both in the form of coffee bags of the the Nespresso machine. The milk was in small UHT pots, But fresh milk is available on request.. The room is in the roof with sloping ceiling and beams running across the room. The ones at the edge of the are ideal for banging you head on. In daylight they are fairly obvious . but beware if you go to switch off the table lamp or collecting anything at the edge of the room when you are going to bed! The windows in the room are skylights and is is difficult to to see the hills through them ( and they do not open). Having said this the room is very comfortable and we enjoyed our stay. However I will be asking for room 7 in future. Based on a previous visit that room is equally as well appointed ,though maybe, a little smaller and has normal windows and a less aggressive ceiling! We have visited in the past and will be visiting again in the future. And of course don't forget the Michelin standard restaurant.

Second visit with friends. Warm friendly welcome. Ideal accommodation, very clean & comfortable room. We chose the 7 course tasting menu at dinner which was fabulous. Skill of the chef was excellent. Enjoyed the whole experience. Waiting staff were knowledgeable, friendly & very good at their job. Breakfast also of a very high standard & beautifully served. Will be back for visit 3. Thank you.

We had a brilliant stay. Great attention to detail and lovely friendly service. The food was absolutely amazing. we had the 3 course dinner which came with lots of tasty extras. I am GF and was well catered for from the menu and I was even made an individual dessert to give me a better choice. Thank you

We had been in the lakes for a week and had enjoyed a great walking holiday our hotel was nice but we wanted a treat for our last night . We booked the gable end suite and the 7 course tasting menus plus wine flight . So we are lucky and get to visit many excellent and Michelin quality venues mostly in London on business. So to compare vs say a named profiled play I would say 1863 punches hard . Service and welcome were total class ,experienced sommelier with great detail and love for the job ,waitress staff knowledgable and happy the chef and his team turn out simply delicious creative outstanding fayre beautifully presented and delivered . The highlights where many in fact each dish suddenly became my favourite from Amuse bouche to cheese . The room was what I would call 5 star and beyond the decor facility quality and attention to detail was spotless really very good . It was not a cheap experience but in terms of cost actually it stood up against 5tar experiences elsewhere where it wins however is the fact that it’s in a beautiful part of the world and it surprises you with its level .there are plenty of great hotels and dining rooms all of which are good within distance we tried most but 1863 wins the day hands down I think

Went for a weekend on the birthday deal, what a lovely experience! From the warm welcome on arrival to the clean, comfortable room overlooking the main street (pleasantly surprised how little traffic noise we heard overnight) to the superb fine dining experience. We had the 3 course menu on the first night, attentive service, loved the egg snacks and the chocolate desert. The seven course taster menu on the second night was impeccable, each course a taste experience, described on presentation, beautifully complemented by the wine flight. Highlights were the lamb tartare, the Johnny Hall pork and the halibut. That Michelin star can’t be far away 😊. Breakfast is pre-ordered and served freshly prepared at the time you book so no busy times or waiting. The full Cumbrian is a must, set us up for a day on the fells. Plenty of choice and generous portions. All the staff were great and obviously love working there!
