Whitework embroidery is a timeless art form that has been practiced around the world for centuries. It encompasses various techniques that create textured patterns by either creating voids in the fabric or adding patterns on top of it. In this concentration, students will delve into the fundamentals of whitework embroidery, exploring a wide range of techniques such as Monogramming, Hardanger, Hedebo, Richelieu/Cutwork, Reticella, Broderie Anglaise, and more. 

The course will cover the history, methods, materials, and tools necessary for this technique. Lectures will also touch upon regional and cultural differences, historical applications, design principles, and color theory relevant to whitework embroidery. Students will have the opportunity to experiment with traditional and contemporary styles, receiving personalized guidance and critique from their instructor. 

To ensure a smooth learning experience, students will receive detailed course instructions, including pre-work requirements and an equipment list before the course begins. Registration closes three days prior to the start date, and late registration may be accommodated if possible. Please note that a cancellation policy applies, with refunds available up to two weeks before the course start date, minus a $75 processing fee. For cancellations between two weeks and three days before the start date, the tuition can be applied to the next available Comprehensive Studies Program.
