Additionally, the event prompts a reevaluation of what sustainability truly means in the creative industry. It encourages creatives to reflect on the need for change in their approach, purpose, and actions, while emphasizing the importance of supporting one another. Going Dutch seeks to address the issue of undervaluation in the art world. It highlights the contradiction of demanding fair compensation for artists while expecting free or undervalued work. The event recognizes that many opportunities and open calls are organized by artists themselves, who are struggling to sustain their creative practices financially. Being undervalued for their time, effort, and expertise is disheartening. Let Us See You is a 12-month project that offers curatorial support, artist development, and exhibition opportunities to artists based in Leeds. It culminates in a series of exhibitions across the city at partner venues. This project aims to democratize the curation and selection process for art shows by providing support and addressing the artists' specific needs. It builds on the inclusive work of Aire Place Studios, which actively supports communities facing barriers to participation.
