DesirePaths is part of ‘This is Us’ is a creative engagement programme led by Estuary Festival and Metal commissioned by Castle Point Borough Council inviting local residents to share experiences of living in the borough and aspirations for its future. Local artists have been commissioned to develop creative activities that share diverse perspectives, with creative activities both informing and illustrating the emerging Local Plan. Join the Desire Paths artists Kate, Laura and Liam to explore Canvey Town Centre through a guided sensory walk. Meeting at the Memorial Gardens in front of The Paddocks, we will flow down Long Road and up Furtherwick Road, seeping into side streets as we go. Travelling about 1.5km over a period of 2.5 hours, the walk will include multiple pause points for creative engagement and contemplation. No artistic experience or preparation necessary! On the day we would like you to help us with your sensory responses to: &gt; Surfaces: how we move over them, their materials and textures (sensing down) &gt; Connections: shopfronts and ‘behind the scenes’, alleyways and gullies (sensing through) &gt; Boundaries: both-and-between edges, borders and the structures that separate, protect or contain (sensing over) All materials will be provided. Just bring yourself, a good jacket and a comfortable pair of shoes. We will end at the Knightswick Centre for a debrief and refreshments. All activity will be complete by 12:00pm. Accessibility note : The distance will be approximately 1.5 kilometres with no steps or steep gradients. May include some uneven surfaces. Please advise us in advance of any additional accessibility needs. We will be spending some time next to busy traffic at the roadside. Context: Commissioned by Castle Point Borough Council, Desire Paths is part of the ‘This is Us’ stream of work to make space for new, engaging conversations about life in Castle Point led by Estuary Festival and Metal. The creative outcomes of this project, informed by local people, will feed directly into the development of the new Castle Point Local Plan1 (CPP) for example photographs, journals, creative conversations. AboutDesirePaths: 3 artists have been commissioned to devise and lead a series of 3 walks and a public engagement project across Castle Point. This first walk takes place in Hadleigh High Street and is designed to encourage participants to share their perspectives about their surroundings, discover observations about the existing environment and also ideas about what it could or should be like in the future.
