🇹🇭 Bangkok, City of Angels: My Favourite Experiences
Bangkok is one of the most visited cities in the world and for good reason, as it has something for everyone! Here are my favourite experiences in Bangkok!
1️⃣ Wat Pho ☸️
Unlikely the overly touristy Grand Palace next door, Wat Pho feels really serene and makes for a good walk. You can take your time to stroll around the complex, look at the statues, and read about Buddhism! The famous Thai massage originated here too, and I believe you can try it yourself there!
2️⃣ Jim Thompson House🧣
Jim Thompson, originally from the US, was one of Thailand’s great entrepreneurs. He brought Thai silk to the world, and was very successful. This house was where he hosted Bangkok’s high society in his day. Unfortunately, Thompson died of mysterious circumstances in 1967 in the Cameron Highlands. To this day, the name “Jim Thompson” carries an aura of Thai refinement, so this house is definitely worth checking out!
3️⃣ National Museum 🎭
Bangkok is a very hot city, and one good respite from the heat is to visit the National Museum Bangkok. The museum consists of several buildings of different architectural styles and showcases the history of Thailand through its different eras - Sukhothai, Ayutthaya and Rattanakosin. The royal barges display was particularly impressive.
4️⃣ Talat Noi 🏚️
To experience the antique charm or Bangkok, there is no better place that Talat Noi (little market), located near Yaowarat. This neighbourhood has a rich history, as Bangkok’s first port of entry, where most immigrants landed. Many ethnic Chinese communities like the Teochew have strong roots here. There are some nice restaurants here too, such as Hong Sieng Kong, where I had lunch.
5️⃣ Icon Siam 🛍️
Bangkok has many malls, but this one is special. The architecture of Icon Siam truly stands out, and it is a paragon of luxury in Bangkok. Perfect for a restful day.
