If you drive a car or ride a bicycle in the north east regions of Singapore, you are more or less familiar or at least heard of yishun dam. It was a perfect weather yesterday, and I decided to hit the roads with my bike and make my way to discovering more of this wonderful yishun dam. Yishun dam was built to separate the sea of the Johor Straits and the fresh water from the lower seletar reservoir. In between it, is a narrow road where many cars and heavy vehicles pass through everyday. In the day, the yishun dam is quiet and you only see less than 5 people on it. Some are fishing, some are just riding their bikes like me or just chilling by the dam. Come at Night, and you see people gathering by the dam and having picnics under the moonlight. Look across the dam and you can see ships at the johor straits, look opposite and you see the pretty reservoir with unblock views of yishun. This place is a jem! #celebratewithtrip

Lower Seletar Reservoir Park is a good place for leisure activities, both on land and in water. There’s something for everyone such as Family Bay with a new performance stage, a water play area, a bioswale rain garden and a Heritage Bridge. In addition, we can leisurely strolls or jogs at the park and there is a fishing jetty maintained by PUB thus that anglers may hooks large snakeheads and tilapias swimming in the waters. For in water activity, the park is also a popular venue for kayaking and dragon-boating at the Lower Seletar Water Sports Centre. Good place for bird watching, especially during the harvesting of water weeds where the grey herons and other birds come to feast on organism trapped in the weeds. A little problematic for parking if driving there, may need to park at the HDB estate and walk over.

Located along Yishun Avenue 1, I have driven by this park many times over the years but have never stopped to visit this park. I finally decided to visit this park when I was in the area and i was not disappointed. The first thing one would notice is the long heritage bridge. There are boards explaining the history of the reservoir and it is well worth a read. The views and scenery along the bridge and at the end of the bridge was also quite stunning. After visiting the bridge, can continue walking along the reservoir and you’ll see a water play area for children. There is also a water sports centre where you can rent a kayak to kayak in the reservoir. And towards the end of the park, there is a fishing deck where you can either choose to fish or watch what people are fishing. All in all, a short but scenic hike in one of the lesser visited reservoir parks in Singapore. #gohiking
