Exploring Jiufen

Situated in a small mountain region, Ruifang District, New Taipei City, Jiufen is an old village that still retains its own charm. It is said that Jiufen used to be a village with nine families during the Qing Dynasty and would request for 9 portions (jiu fen in Chinese) of shipment every time and that’s how its name came about. It subsequently became a gold mining town, ended up shutting off in 1971 when mining declined after World War II. It has since flourished to become a must-visit tourist attraction with its preserved narrow alleyways, stairs and teashops. Although we were driven to Jiufen by a friend, getting there via public transport shouldn’t be a quite difficult with a direct bus 1062 from Zhongxiao Fuxing MRT outside Sogo department store. #passionpassport #jiufen
