Bukit Burung, a hidden gem overlooking Toba

I chanced upon Bukit Burung on Google map while researching for places I want my guide to bring me to on motorbike. It is located further up the hill about 15 minutes ride by motorcycle from the hot spring in Aek Rangat. Apparently this lookout point is not very well-known among the local people. My guide asked a few locals along the way and no one has heard of Bukit Burung before. Eventually I brought my guide who was born and bred in Samosir to a place that he has never been to! If I remember correctly there is no signboard at the junction leading to the lookout point so it's quite easy to miss it. From the junction we followed the rough stony path till the end and we were awarded with a beautiful view of Samosir Island and a small inhabited island called Pulau Tulas in Lake Toba.
