Zigana Gumuskayak Yaylakent Hotel

A series of hairpin bends leads steeply uphill for a few kilometres to Zigana Pass from Trabzon Gümüşhane Yolu (D885/E97). At top of the pass in the cloud we found a few restaurants, simple shops and Zigana Gumuskayak Yaylakent Hotel. A narrow twisting road leads along the mountainside to the small lake, restaurant and recreational area of Limni Gölü Tabiat Parkı. The roads are well surfaced and easily passed in a 2-wheeled drive car except in deep snow. There is a large car park. Walks and ski runs reach directly to the hotel. The large wooden building looks like a classic mountain lodge. The welcome was warm as was the heat from the wood burning stove. Rooms are simply furnished and wood is everywhere. Shower room was well equipped and water hot. Magnificent mountain views down the valley from the bedroom. Windows sealed tight against the storm which raged on the night we stayed. Breakfast and dinner was served in the large dining area. Locals came in for a meal, which is a good sign. Food was tasty and service friendly. Internet speed was good. This was a visit between seasons when there are few visitors. Good value.
