Matthiol Appartements

We stayed at the Matthiol Serviced Apar**ents for four days and it was amazing. We had a 3 bedroom apar**ent and it was the perfect size for our family of 5. The apar**ent was beautiful, very clean, and it had all the necessary essentials. We also had a gorgeous view of the Matterhorn. The hotel and building staff were so nice and helpful and they assisted us with every request. They even came to our rescue very quickly the last morning when our coffee machine wasn’t working properly. The apar**ent also includes use of a private hot tub/sauna area, a ski room, and a laundry room. We were able to reserve the hot tub/sauna area each evening after skiing and it was very nice. I was a little worried to stay here after I read the reviews discussing the long walk up to the apar**ent but it really wasn’t too bad. However, I would be careful if you are traveling with anyone who has difficulty climbing up stairs. We were even able to ski under the Cervo hotel right into the apar**ent/which was an added bonus.

This was the perfect base for our family (two older teenagers and us) of four to explore beautiful Zermatt! It is a ten min walk to the main grocery store (Coop) and the main town area. Be warned though, the walk back requires a basic good fitness level (i.e if you are out of shape you will know it in about 20 seconds)! It's up up up, but so lovely we never cared. Easy walk to all lifts for hiking etc. The views are incredible from the apar**ent - the Matterhorn just looms over everything and you can't believe how big it is - and the kitchen was well equipped with essentials. We bought our own food, drinks, and made ourselves right at home. Free laundry in basement (slow but we chose to air dry) and the wellness area is actually just lovely. The spa and steam room were perfect and we enjoyed them after a long day hiking. As Americans we never get used to the lack of screens in other countries, but regardless it was great to open windows (no AC) to sleep in cool mountain air - a few flies and bugs but nothing major - birds did get in a few times through main room, but they seemed to know they didn't belong and promptly flew out. I wish I never had to leave - it was the most amazing place, so relaxing, so beautiful so CLEAN and just all around perfect. PS. the coffee was fabulous in the espresso maker sugar is provided, (we bought cream at Coop).

Not convinent, long steep walk way steps, to just get down to the service riad. The lights along the steps never on. Very dangerous walk back to the apar**ent at night.

Beautiful appartement with amazing view on the Matterhorn. We were a family of 8 staying in the 4 bedrooms penthouse. We loved our stay there and the wellness spa area was a lovely way to recover after a day of hiking. The only comment we have is about the kitchen supplies. If you want to cook a meal for 8 persons, there is very limited kitchen supplies. No scissors, no cutting board, no cheese grater, only 2 small cooking pans. We made a cheese fondue and there were only 6 cheese fondue forks. Luckily, we had friendly neighbors who landed us some extra forks :-)

Apar**ent was good, but don't stay here unless you want to hike up and down every time you want to leave the apar**ent (town or skiing). And certainly don't leave anything behind. They will claim it is not there and you will get your items stolen. You have to walk up a very steep, long and narrow way to reach the building. This must be done every single time you want to go to town or skiing. You are able to ski back into the building if you are able to ski to Cervo, take skis off, walk about 100m, put your skis back on and go down a hill behind the building. It's a partial ski in but not a ski out. The apar**ent itself was nice, but I had a huge issue at checkout. I left behind a scarf, sunglasses and a medicine bag and the staff was very nonchalant about trying to find it. I know for an absolute fact that I left all items inside the closet in the primary room. They were on the 3rd shelf, right hand side. I called the apar**ents about 3hs after we checked out (before the new guests checked in), when I realized I had left them behind. They said they would check with housekeeping. They called me about 5 minutes later to say nothing was found. I asked them if they checked inside the closet and they said yes, it's standard procedure. I asked them to ask the new guests checking in if they found anything. They refused but said they would call me back (never did). I followed up for 3 straight days and was told "we're not playing the police here". Never got my items back.

Great place to stay, would gladly return.

The property was great. Very roomy. Walking distance to old town and many restaurants. You do have to hike up to get to the apar**ent, which may be difficult for some people, but it's doable.

Matthiol claims we did no cancel our reservation. We did so shortly after making it. They never charged us the deposit as per their written policy and they never charged the final half 30 days before the stay. Either action would have let us know they had made the mistake of not removing our booking from their system. Instead they ent us no communication over the 6+ months and charged us the day before arrival, which of course outside their cancellation window. These people are dishonest. They yelled at me that I should have followed the policy (which I did by canceling 6 months out) and claimed their not following their deposit policy was a courtesy. You can’t have it both ways. It’s theft.

車を降りた道路からホテルまで登り坂で、荷物の搬入が大変。ホテル側がボーターを用意してくれるとの約束が守られない。 ホテル側が駅までの専用車を用意してくれるとの約束の時間が守られない。 低層階の部屋からマッターホルンは見えない。 ホテルの受付がなく連絡するのが不自由。 ドイツ語や英語が話せない人は連絡が難しい。 It is difficult to bring in luggage from the road where you got off the car to the hotel on an uphill slope. The promise that the hotel will provide a boater is not kept. The promised time that the hotel will prepare a private car to the station is not kept. The Matterhorn cannot be seen from the rooms on the lower floors. There is no hotel reception and it is inconvenient to contact. It is difficult to contact people who do not speak German or English.
