Alykanas Beach Grand Hotel by Zante Plaza

My family and I traveled from the US to stay at Alykanas Beach Hotel. We reserved four rooms, since we had grandparents and other relatives going as well. The day before we left Athens to travel to Zakynthos, my husband had a terrible accident and had to be hospitalized. Not only was he hospitalized, he also had to have surgery. I contracted the hotel (and booking) via email and phone call. They did not work with us at all, on a refund or credit. Not only did they not provide any support on a refund or future credit, they did not consider any other type of resolution. They basically said in a few words "oh well, were sorry about your luck" we will not provide any credit or refund and if your not going to use the rooms, we will book to someone else. I was completely disgusted with their lack of empathy, greed for money and lack of overall humanity. The fact that a medical emergency can happen like this and there is no human passion to try and provide some sort of financial relief is disgusting. On top of that my dad ended up going to use one of the rooms we had reserved. His experience was not good. Room had an awful blocked view, it smelled and was next to the bar so very noisy. NEVER STAY AT THIS HOTEL. I would highly discourage it.

To save reading anything else a good point of reference to know if this hotel is for you ask yourself this question. Is it acceptable to be served ‘prosecco’ in a half pint glass with ice? If the answer is no then this place is not for you. Room: Spacious room, storage ok, only 6 hangers and one pillow each, had to request an extra pillow a few times before it appeared. Spacious balcony with a lovely view. Mark on pillow, a similar on towel, looked clean otherwise so probably a stain. Bathroom window doesnt lock and can be pushed open from outside Inch gap around frosted glass bathroom door, can literally see a person on the toilet if you walk by. Aircon wouldnt work called maintenence he appeared within the hour, very pleasant explained how sensitive the sensors are and they need to be in the exact place (why this was the case after it not being an issue for a week who knows) next moring spent about 20 mins moving the doors a mm at a time and still couldnt get it to come on. Same in the evening and then the same every day, it just worked randomly. Sleep was poor, the aircon made noise like it was releasing pressure randomly through the night which jolted us all awake each time, i told reception twice they looked suitably upset on our behalf but nothing changed. In addition a beeping noise also happened randomly from the box by the front door waking us through the night. food and drink: All drink taste watered down gin and tonic tasted of nothing. White wine ok (watered down). Red wine undrinkable. As mentioned ‘Prosecco’ served with ice in a half pint glass. I’m guessing the beer wasn’t as watered down, or maybe it was the sheer quantity consumed due to it being on tap but there was certainly drunkenness about the place, so much so when i went for my walk at 7am a drinker from the night before who hadnt made it to his room was alseep on a sunbed with a quilt surrounded by glasses. Food was ok but its a tight space, it’s a mix of nationalities and I’m guessing that’s why we all had different ideas of what is polite and proper behaviour? People cut across, don’t wait their turn and generally act like the food it’s about to run out or they are actually starving (which is unlikely as there is an excellent snack bar). We gave up eating evening meals in the hotel and ate out instead. SNACK bar was the nicest thing about the place! The guy running it made his own pizza (best ever) and smiled all day. He was the only staff member who said kalimera our whole stay! Certainly the cleaners who hosed your feet at 7:30 while you tried to eat a peaceful breakfast didnt, they couldnt even crack a smile. Vaping and smoking allowed in all outdoor areas including covered eating areas. Large groups of staff sitting about in guest areas smoking eating some with unruley children, looks very unprofessional for what is supposed to be a 4 star hotel. We have just spent an amazing week at this hotel - I had watched the mixed reviews with interest but wanted to see for myself and I am so glad we did. This hotel is a gem in an amazing location on a beautiful sandy shallow beach where the water is warm and calm. It's not loud, there are no pool activities, it is very chilled. The evening entertainment is low key and during the day they play a great range of music. Nice spacious rooms, great wet room , smart TV's VERY comfortable beds and all kept very clean. The food was really great for an all inclusive and the drinks were good too. The staff work very hard to keep everything clean and tidy always checking food etc a d happy and smiley. Alykanas is a wonderful place with some lovely taverna's and bars if you want to venture out for a more lively evening . Wouldn't hesitate to return here and can see why many do...

We had a great family holiday here. Our room was on the ground floor and was very comfortable. The bathroom is a wet room, which took a bit of getting used to, but drained and dried extremely quickly. The room was spotlessly clean and the staff took great pleasure in arranging my daughter's teddies every day! The swimming pool is great with no problem finding sunloungers and umbrellas. The lifeguard was very vigilant and brilliant with all the children. There is direct access to the narrow beach from the poolside and we loved being able to just pop into the very shallow, very blue sea. Food at all the meals was varied, but with plenty of standard choices for pickier eaters. The indoor dining areas got very stuffy, but there is plenty of outdoor shaded seating. We had a brilliant week here and would happily return.

Lovely rooms and staff, very clean throughout the whole complex. Food was good if you are a fan of all inclusive. We didn’t use the pool but the beautiful beach is just 3 steps away! The only downside for us was the constant music around the pool and all evening until 11, quite a noisy hotel so not the place to go for peace and quiet.

We are currently staying at Alykanas Beach and have already booked for next year. The hotel is brilliant, food exceptional, hotel spotless throughout,, staff are great and the entertainment is good and great location. We'll done Zante Plaza. Andrew and Annette.
