Stay Swanky Hostel

I'm not a frequent hostel-goer, but my stay here was less than impressive despite the high praise it often receives. The 11-person dorm felt cramped, featuring creaky wooden beds placed too closely together. The bedding and air quality left much to be desired. On the plus side, the facilities were decent and relatively clean, including a bar area that seemed underutilized both by guests and outsiders. Considering the £20 per night price tag, there are plenty of other options in Zagreb that offer a better value for the same cost

Firstly, I have never considered staying in hostel accommodation, this was my first experience, and I wish I had considered it before! I made a last minute journey on a tight schedule and budget, so was desperate to arrange a bed for a few hours sleep, and a shower etc. A few days before, I emailed swanky hostel, to arrange. The contact was friendly, efficient and very welcoming. THEY EVEN BENT THE RULES A BIT..thankyou. Anyway I only stayed 12hours, but it was exactly what I needed, and I would recommend to anyone...'if you are not sure, just give it a go' The hostel was easy to find (I came from main bus terminal, jumped on a tram and arrived in no time). Each staff member was so friendly and efficient, really great. I stayed in 8 bed dorm (everyone asleep behind curtains when I arrived, and up and away before I woke). The showers/toilet were adequate. I only used the small communal kitchen, for boiling water as I was in such a rush, but there were always people there on each occasion and they looked to be enjoying themselves...there was a free coffee machine also, which I'm sure is welcome (I had my own anyway so didn't use it). Each guest I encountered was either keeping themselves to themselves, or friendly greetings/chat. On a side note, I only had time to rush round zagreb taking photos for a couple hours, before leaving, but the city looks great and can't wait to visit again soon (without rushing for football)...and see some of the earthquake repairs completed etc. Loved my 2days in croatia, and will definitely return with family.
