Girraween Environmental Lodge

I booked in for a 2 night mid-week stay and quickly realised that wasn't nearly enough and extended my stay. I was in a 1 bedroom chalet (no.7) in a great location-very close to the outdoor spa and pools and yet nicely secluded in the bush allowing me to get the full effect of nature and the peace it brings. The neighbouring chalet was close enough for friends/family who may also be staying but far enough away for strangers. The other chalets weren't easily visible at all.The chalet itself was very comfortable and well stocked. There were a few highlights for me-firstly looking out the kitchen window making my morning cuppa to see a foraging kangaroo less than a metre away.Secondly, sitting on the deck and watching the bower bird,butcher birds and magpies while listening to their beautiful songs.Then, the brushtail possum with a joey on her back scrambling down from the roof at dusk to hide underneath the deck!The bed was comfy and warm and I never felt cold at any time although it was winter. The grounds are fun to explore with so many friendly, grazing kangaroos everywhere-I stopped taking photos after the first 20! i didn't try to at any of them as they appear to be wild but I never once felt at risk. I took an easy stroll over to look at the goats and deer in their enclosure and also enjoyed watching the chickens,rooster(which I never heard crow),guinea fowl,geese and ducks that wander freely around outside in the yard near the reception area. I could have fed the goats at 8:30 in the morning but decided to choose sleep ins that I don't usually get in my busy life. The walks on the property are an added bonus-on private property and with beautiful scenery.I walked to the Rock Pools and to Ramsay's Rest which has a picnic table in a little clearing next to a creek-not far at all from the entrance. No noise other than nature and your own thoughts-no planes,traffic,sirens,alarms and no pings on your phone.Due to the lack of phone reception, Bengu offered me the radio walkie-talkies which is a great idea.Don't forget to take a camera with you. There were many other walks available that were more challenging and no doubt also scenic. It was great to have a carport for parking my car directly at the end of the chalet.I would walk up to the reception area each morning to check for messages and emails on my phone but would advise driving if you plan to go in the dark as country/bush darkness is absolute and the roads through the the lodge grounds are dirt and bumpy. Speaking of the darkness-take advantage of the outdoor spa star gazing-just remember to book a time when it will be dark enough.The stars are spectacular with no light pollution getting in the way. Bengu was always cheerful,helpful and available and although she must have explained everything a thousand times to new guests over the years, she has a way of making you feel like you're the first and only one and special! I will definitely be back.

We love staying at Girraween Environmental Lodge! Cabin was so cozy and clean. Our daughter adored feeding the deer in the mornings. The owners are just beautiful; kind and very helpful. The walks from the property were all suitable for our 6 year old. We will be back!

What a beautiful place. The chalet is a really nice option for people who want to get away and be in nature without losing out on the creature comforts of a shower, bed, and coffee! I’m not a camper so this fit for us perfectly. It was kind of nice to be without cell service. It “forced” me to read a book I’d been meaning to finish. The couple who run the resort are very lovely as well.

Great holiday with three families at girraween. Nice walks around the property and very short drive to the national park. Had fun spas at night. Pool was freezing but kids still got in. Cabins were clean and all close to each other so kids could walk and ride bikes between. Highly recommend

Every year my husband and I stay at At he Girraween Environmental Lodge to experience the peace and tranquility of this lovely place. The hosts, Paul and Bengu are very welcoming and helpful and the chalets are spacious, cozy and comfortable with a great log fire. the property has its own marked walking trails where guests can see plenty of wildlife and experience great views.

We stayed in one of the double chalets over a long weekend and had a great time. The accommodation is very well appointed and the chalets are beautifully designed. The location was amazing - right next to the stunning Girraween national park and within close distance to multiple wineries, Ballandean and the greater Stanthorpe region. The owners were very friendly and helpful.

Well maintained, clean cabins with all amenities provided. Fully equipped kitchen so you can cook your own meals. Friendly hosts. Nice secluded cabins: you wouldn't know there are other people there, you're surrounded by bush. Good to get away from technology with no noise but nature.

Escape the rat-race of the city! These cozy chalets are just 2.5hrs from Brisbane. My wife and I took our three kids here in August. It was incredibly peaceful, offering a balance of luxury and the opportunity to disconnect. We loved watching the fireplace flicker each night while playing card games, but also enjoyed the enormous spa bath. The trails are well marked, and were able to be navigated by myself and my two oldest children (9 and 7). The views are spectacular! The hosts, Paul & Bengu made us feel welcome, and ensured our holiday was special. Activities for kids include, a large library of books, DVDs, and boardgames; large fields for kicking a ball around; swimming pools (including a heated spa); feeding the animals; spotting wildlife. We loved our stay and hope to return.

Paul and Bengu were gracious hosts, making sure I'm all settled and comfortable in my lodge given I'm solo travelling. (Paul even drove past just to check that I was able to get the fire going one night!) The lodge was spacious and cosy with all the amenities you would expect from a luxury resort. Being able to have your own bath is also a big plus and a rareity in accommodation around the area! Being so close to Giraween National Park and also boasting their own walking paths is a plus as you are straight out in nature the moment you step out of the lodge. It is an experience to disconnect in the evenings and a very refreshing experience. The lodge is also close to many amazing wineries in Balladean and Stanthorpe, easy and convenient for day trips to sample the wines, chocolate, cheese and truffles in the region!
