Girraween Environmental Lodge

This retreat has clearly seen better days and is in dire need of a re-fresh. The carpet tiles from the 70ies and the grandma furniture add to the gloom of the dark huts and so our stay didn’t feel luxurious at all. It was also unclear to us what is meant by “environmental”. Certainly not the introduced deer, goats and Guinea Fowl, some of whom roam freely across the property. The huts are badly insulated, so the fireplace is much needed on a cold night. Also strangely, we had troubles booking for the length we wanted, but when we got there there was only one other party and the other 13 huts were empty. We tried to go for a few walks on the property, but they are badly signposted and overgrown. Not to mention the random rubbish like pipes and abandoned vehicles along the way. On the plus side, it is very quiet and there were roos aplenty on the lawn.

They have great hikes and lots of cute wildlife. The outdoor fireplace is quite big. The couches are really soft and the electric blanket was a lifesaver

Our recent stay at Giraween was wonderful. we were welcomed by the warm hospitality of Paul and B, who are truly excellent hosts and provide detailed information about the stay.. The cabin was cosy and beautifully presented, with unique touches that reflect the charm and character of the local area. We loved the fireplace—it added a warm, relaxing atmosphere in the chilly weather. The spa bath was fabulous after a day of walking, and I loved the electric blankets .The cabin was spacious, and the BBQ was perfect for cooking outdoor meals. We enjoyed the deer feeding experience, Paul provided a wealth of information about the property, local area and deer. The property offers lovely walking trails that are clearly signed and easy to follow.. the cottages location is just a short drive from national park walks in the Giraween. We left feeling refreshed, relaxed, and enjoyed the digital detox! Will definitely visit again.
