Applegarth Villa Hotel & Restaurant (Adult Only)

Staying in room 2. What a fantastic room, very spacious with 2 beautiful Bay windows. One overlooking the peaks. Fabulous walk in waterfall shower. It also has twin sinks with a jacuzzi bath and a TV set into the wall so you can watch it while in the jacuzzi. The room is modern and tastefully decorated. There us a round bed and very comfy. We are truly enjoying our stay. The food is of a very high standard with all local produce and well presented. The staff are very friendly and also professional.

We really liked the warmth and comfort of our room, the big spa bath, the big round bed and the views from our room which was room number 2 in the house. We also appreciated the little espresso machine in our room as we like to start the day with a coffee. There is a level of outdated tackiness but if you like a bit of kitsch then you are in the right place. In room number 2 it really worked. The place feels intimate, and it feels unpretentious because it is family run, and everyone is very friendly. The location is great for anyone who comes by train and doesn't drive. It's a good base to be in to explore the area by bus. However we strongly feel that this hotel should be advertised as 4 stars. When I book 5 stars then I really expect 5 stars because I hardly ever treat myself to such things. The hotel is good but it is not exceptional. We went to eat in other places when the restaurant was shut which were also 5 star hotels and there was a noticeable difference in the same sort of price range when it comes to attention to detail and going the extra mile. We feel like it's resting a bit on the good location it is in. It's the already described outdated design (which definitely also depends on taste), but also because the general level to detail that is missing. The breakfast is good, hash browns are missing off the full English plate and the thin slices of toast don't really make up for it. The coffee in the cafetière is not great and one has to pay extra to get a decent latte served which I would expect to be included in a 5 star hotel, luckily we had the little espresso machine in our room.

What an excellent experience, a special weekend stay for our Golden Wedding anniversary. The host family could not do enough to make our stay with them so memorable. Our two dinners in the restaurant were outstanding, only adding to the whole experience. A big thank you to everyone.

Absolutely stunning suite .Immaculate rooms,very friendly It was difficult to get a taxi and the owners wife gave us a lift in her own car which we thought was above and beyond . We will definitely returning for another stay Absolutely amazing service

We just spent 3 nights here in room 17. It's a very large room and big bed. Really nice decor throughout. Excellent sized TV and great picture! Double spa bath was a treat and you could lie in it and watch TV at the same time. Breakfast was delicious. Lots of choice and freshly cooked. Chef was adaptable to my challenging food requirements. 25 minute walk into Bowness and lots of places to eat and drink on the doorstep. Lovely place. Really glad we chose it!

Just returned from another fab stay at this hotel, arrived early and were able to leave the car in the hotel car park. Room very spacious and clean, modern and great decor. Nice bar for drinks in the evening. Only slight negative was breakfast could of been slightly hotter will not prevent us stopping again.
