A solid four stars from us - affordable, laid back luxury with a great spa in a typically bucolic Cotswold setting. The tasting menu is amongst the best we’ve ever had: the scallop, duck and chocolate pudding were outstanding; better than Le Manoir and The Waterside at Bray, in our humble opinion. The staff are excellent, especially the gentlemen who greeted us and the girls on reception. We have deducted a star for two reasons: firstly, the room service and lunch menu in The Shed is too limited and lacks diversity - pizza, burgers or salad - some imagination here would not go amiss. Secondly, we both work in incredibly stressful jobs and wanted to lie in, sleep and rest. After breakfast in bed, we had both dozed off, only to be woken by housekeeping TWICE at 10:20am and again at 11:45am asking to clean our room. We couldn’t find a ‘do not disturb’ sign and strongly feel that guests staying several nights should not be disturbed at the weekend before midday at least. We were rather cross, especially when we asked to be left alone until 1:30pm and the same operative returned just over an hour after first disturbing us to again ask when they could clean the room. All in all a very pleasant stay and we would most definitely return.
