The Bull Inn West Tanfield

Popped in for a drink to be greeted by very friendly staff and live music. The land lord even bought us a round. We loved it so much we stayed the night and in the morning we were treated to a lovely breakfast. We never ate here but the food coming out of the kitchen looked very nice. Would definitely recommend.

Had a great overnight stay, my room was spotless, fantastic steak and ale pie, good selection of beers and the best full English breakfast I have had in a long while. The staff are very friendly and the cosy bar area was very welcoming. Will definitely be returning.

Well what can I say....we found an absolute gem, with the The Bull Inn, from the moment my young family and I walked in, we were made to feel welcome from both staff and locals. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The food was delicious and the staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble. They acknowledged and spoke to my young children as well as us, which made my children's time here extra special. Thank you for making our little getaway a little bit more special. We will definitely be back and recommend The Bull Inn for all your getaways.

Sadly, the beef sandwich with Gravy and chips was as tough as old boots and the Gravy had a 'burnt' background taste which wasn't very nice. The pub itself and staff were brilliant; we'll be back to give it another go, as we're in the area for a week.

The views from the beer garden are lovely, well worth a visit if you’re in the area! We called for lunch on a busy Saturday with our dog. The staff were lovely and the food was quick and delicious. It wasn’t our first visit and certainly won’t be our last ☺️

The good-we have eaten here previously; the fish and chips were outstanding. The bucolic setting by the river is idyllic. Not so good-we ordered at the bar, and were told twice that if we were eating in the garden we had to come back up the steps and say what the table number was, even though we were the only people in the garden and collect our own utensils, condiments etc on the way down. On this occasion I choose the steak pie which comes with vegetables and chips. When the slice of pie arrived it was sat in a bowl of thick deep gravy, the young friendly waitress, said she would return with the veg and chips. The terrible-when she did, it was almost impossible to describe the presentation/offering. What looked like a small saucer size of soggy almost unrecognisable something with small ready flabby chips dumped on top. Never have we seen anything quite like it! The pie was almost inedible the crust was rock hard and the gallons of gravy that the pie slice was sat in was extremely salty. In the interest of fairness, my partners fish and chips in comparison was well presented and of good proportions. Overall impression, the young waitress was friendly, the bar staff far less so, and what appeared to be the owner/manager even more so; customer service skills-sadly lacking. Subsequently. we thought it prudent to say nothing and left, will not be returning.
