Sylt has the big bad resort (Westerland) which is now somewhat tacky around the edges and some much prettier smaller resorts, each of which has its own special charm. If you’re without car it makes sense to be central – so go for Wenningstedt ! In Wenningstedt Strandhörn has a nice location – 5 minutes walk from the bus stop, one or two minutes walk from both beach (and then also close to the 'red cliff'), bicycle rental and a small supermarket and 5 minutes walk from a huge Gosch (fish restaurant) and some more intimate restaurants around a main square. If you are bringing a car then there’s free parking too. We stayed for four nights mid-season, got an upgrade to a lovely apartment (no. 32), had a huge delicious buffet breakfast two days out of four (and ate lighter supermarket fare the other two mornings). Kitchenette included a Nespresso machine (pods available in the supermarket) plus oven, hob, dishwasher (capsules provided) and huge fridge. Comfy beds. We didn’t make use of swimming pool / sauna. While Strandhörn currently has a small Italian restaurant which is OK you’re better off walking to the main square and choosing from the large offering there. Or indeed going to the small Edeka and preparing food in your own kitchenette .... nice terrace and garden in which to eat it. Value for money …. not Sylt’s forte. With our upgrade vfm was really good, without it would have been below average, but that’s the way it is on Sylt and what we expected. So we were pleasantly surprised ! Recommended for a stress-free stay.
