The Rifle Volunteer

Overall the hotel is fine. Parking is convenient. The only thing I would point out is the shower is not hot in our room and breakfast is simple - which is fine but the spoon, knife etc are not very clean.

We stayed in The Rifle Volunteer from 08.11.24 to 10.11.24! As a pub and somewhere to socialise, it was pleasant enough. The owner came and spoke to us on arrival and he was friendly. Unfortunately we will not be back. The carpets on the way up to the room were stained. In the room itself the bed sheets were clean and the bed itself was ok for a night’s sleep. There was mould spores on the room ceiling. The floor was dirty and had not been cleaned properly. The only thing that was clean in the bathroom was the toilet and seat. Disgusting! Filthy and not what I expect when paying for a place to stay! I don’t mind basic but it should be clean. Never had breakfast so cannot comment on that. All in all we were disappointed as there are only 2 places to stay in Ware and won’t be back at this place for obvious reasons.

Suitable for contractors if get good price. Rooms grubby Shower ok Toilet floor, mirror, pull chord dirty Entrance steps not vacuumed Cold water went off so couldn’t flush loo, brush teeth, landlord came out to sort but left roof hatch off. Pizzas not bad but quite expensive and no toppings had arrived. Discount given by barmaid due to this. Barmaid very friendly & helpful. Free car park Good continental breakfast incl crumpets, toast, cereals, cold meat, cheese, porridge, yogurts. Microwave & toaster for all to use. Tea, coffee, fruit juice, all self serve. Decor needs updating. fair bit of ceiling damage in dining area. Would suit contractors as most rooms booked already for them, they were very loud in the bar.
