Inn on the Wye

Unfortunately, the venue needs serious TLC – it's run-down and tired. When I arrived, it looked closed, and I wasn’t sure I had the right place. The outside could really do with a clean-up; there’s an old double-decker bus out front that looks abandoned, and the kerb appeal just isn’t there – weeds, dirty windows, and rusting railings all add to that tired feel. Even a dead bird on the drive up to the carpark which has been there a while by the looks of it. Inside the bar/restaurant, most lights were off, which again made it feel like the bar area might be closed. Having what looked like someone’s old lounge sofa and chairs in the corner felt a bit out of place — the worn cream leather didn’t really suit the space and looked quite tired. I ordered food, which arrived quickly and looked lovely, but the strong smell from the Indian side of the restaurant really dominated the whole venue — especially noticeable during breakfast. It might be worth looking into the extraction system, as the scent was quite overpowering. The food itself wasn’t the tastiest I’ve had, but it was freshly cooked to order. Access to the bar via the outdoor stairs isn’t the easiest — they’re a bit tricky, so I’d recommend taking extra care. The indoor stairs down to the bar could also use some attention, with loose carpet and low lighting making them feel a little unsafe. The walk up to the bedrooms at the back revealed broken spindles and a rotten, damaged roof over the path. There’s also an old caravan next door which looks abandoned, though I wasn’t sure if it’s still in use. On a positive note, I was pleasantly surprised when I entered my room — it smelled fresh, and the bedding looked clean and well presented. The room itself was basic, and the lighting was very dim, which could be improved, but the location was quiet and I had a lovely, peaceful sleep. That said, the staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming, and the bar was well stocked. With its great location and some investment in appearance, this place could have real potential. The place is in real need of some time, care, and attention. I’d recommend removing the old vehicles like the bus and caravan and focusing on restoring this charming building to its full potential. I am sorry to say but I think that the price tag on night’s stay here is extremely high. Maybe an idea to join in the the planned walks and use the bar as an official starting/ending point, make the experience all about the walks. I would contact the local council to see if there was a way to do a collaboration, fund raising days, community coffee mornings, freshen the bus up and advertise this also for the kids. Put clear signing at the bottom on the drive ( the one there currently is covered by overgrown hedges ) Light the building up starting with the drive entrance so that people know that this is open.

This is the worst lodging I have ever stayed in. The room was worn out and dirty. There was mold on the walls. We had to wait 45 minutes to get our breakfast after we ordered. Another couple was leaving while we were waiting for our breakfast. He complained to me about how slow the service was. Two tables which were seated after we were received their food before we did. Avoid this place at all costs. Even if you have to pay double somewhere else or if you have to drive an additional hour the next day to reach your destination.

the experience of staying here is not one i would recommend. the whole place is looking tired and the room we were in had ants . we were asked to come to breakfast early for the convenience of the only staff member on duty. they need to have a look at why they were empty except for us both nights!! i should have taken note of rating and not given the benefit of the doubt

Terrible Christmas Party Night ! Poorly organised, poorly executed and poor quality of food. Head waitress was incredibly rude, challenging when our complaints shared and forceful which was not appreciated. Terrible attitude to guests with pre disclosed food allergies. Starters, mains and desserts brought out randomly so the table was always missing items. No Artisan breads while we waited, ran out of time for coffee and minced pies!. Food was cold, not as described and mains were piled on plates like some back street dockers pub. For £40 it was one of the most expensive options locally . Would not recommend.

Excellent service and lovely, really tasty Indian food. It also catered for one of our party who like English food. The service was prompt and friendly, but not intrusive which was just right. We really enjoyed our evening and will definitely go again.

The Indian food was amazing! The lamb chops were really authentic and full of flavour. The kids played on the playbus while we ate, we are regular visitors to the playbus as an activity for the kids, but this was the first time sampling the Indian food. I would definitely recommend it!
