Church Bay Escape was, like most places, a mixed bag, with both pros and cons. The pros: good location, only about 12 minutes' walk from the main village, Oneroa. Despite being close to a road, passing traffic was minimal, and it was nice and quiet. The beds and bed linen were extremely comfortable, just lovely. And the air con worked well. There is a little kitchenette bar with microwave, bar fridge, kettle, and toaster. As for the cons, these stemmed largely I think from the fact that we were there for a longer stay than is probably usual (7 days), and had really bad weather (rain and wind - we arrived just after the floods!). So we spent more time in the unit than would have been usual. There is no servicing, so we had the same towels and linen for the entire stay. (To be fair, we were given a discount on our stay due to its length, but even a one-off offer of fresh towels would have been nice.) Cleaning up was a little difficult, as there was no kitchen sponge or dust pan (but tea towels were provided, and a broom). We weren't sure what to do with our rubbish. There was no stemware for drinking wine, the fridge needed defrosting, and there was no table, only a low coffee table. We'd brought DVDs with us because we suspected the weather would be bad, but there was no DVD player (and sorry - but New Zealand free to air TV is dreadful!). Overall I'd say good for a short stay of 2-3 days, but perhaps not so great for a longer stay.
