A rather disappointing stay in what we thought would be a “luxury” apartment with balcony. No value for money considering the amount we paid. The building is conveniently located next to a mall, but in a neighborhood that is neither central nor upscale. It has an impersonal if not sterile ambiance, with the focus clearly on commercial apartment rentals and economies of scale. The studio apartment we stayed in was practically blind, with one opening only -from the bedroom to the small balcony. The balcony faced into a smallish courtyard directly opposite the building next to it and in direct and close view of the neighboring windows. Ironically, this balcony was the space where we spent most of our time when in the apartment because the gloominess and lack of light of the deluxe studio was unbearable. The furnishings were relatively new, in modern style and reminiscent of IKEA. But a lot of “small” things were missing making life miserable. There was no socket near the bed, making it impossible to charge your phone or computer through the night. The bathroom and the WC were in separate spaces, but none had a single place to hang a towel. None whatsoever. The WC inexplicably had a small sink but no mirror. There was not a single place in the shower to place your soap and shampoo. Due to poor drainage, shower water was leaking into the bathroom floor creating a real mess. There were no amenities provided other than two miniscule bottles of something like shampoo (with a viscosity that made it a chore to coax it out of the bottle). The “antibacterial” soap provided in the WC had no such problem, it was obviously watered down to something like 3 parts of water to 1 part of soap. Communication with management was another disaster. While they bombarded us with emails directly and through booking wanting all sorts of information to fill on their “Guest Sheet”, they kept on ignoring our inquiry about an early check-in as our flight to Vienna was arriving at 10:00am. Then the day before arriving they sent us via email and booking the codes to enter the apartment. Any reasonable person would assume at this point that our request for an early check-in was granted. Alas, no. Not with Nadland apartments. When we arrived at the location at 11:30am a circus ensued. No codes worked, no keys and us feeling totally stupid that we misinterpreted something with the double set of codes given and/or the number and the floor of the apartment. After several phone calls with the management, we were told that check-in is at 3:00pm. When we objected that they never replied to our request and simply sent us the codes, we were admonished that “they had never confirmed” that we could have an early check-in. The situation was saved by the cleaning ladies who were in place. They were polite and helped us at least leave our suitcases in the apartment until they tidy it up.
