Venabu Fjellhotell

We stayed at the Venabu Mountain Hotel for a week-long club Nordic ski trip with 19 persons and can't say enough good things about the Venabu hotel. The Venabu provides a full suite of services including full board including hot lunch, ski rentals, ski guiding, sleigh rides, yoga, evening music, evening cultural seminars and many more. The food was simply delicious and featured traditional Norwegian and local fare. The skis for rent were high performance and the ski guides added so much to our trip. They selected our daily tour considering the weather and conditions, the groups desires and other factors that so enhanced our skiing experience. The hotel also offers a bus pickup service to and from Oslo airport which greatly aided our getting to the hotel which is about 3 hours north of Oslo airport in a semi-remote area. The hotel also offers shuttle service to/from the local train station that is on the Oslo/Trondheim main line. The hotel has a spacious lobby for socializing, game room and lounge; plus a gift shop. The ski shop offers full ski maintenance services. The Venabu also offers off-track ski guiding and equipment which was spectacular and some of our participants thought was a special experience. And all this was offered at a good value.

We had the most wonderful stay at Venabu for New Year - the staff are wonderful, the food is delicious with generous portions, the hotel itself is cosy, and the scenery is beyond all expectations. We especially loved the ability to relax in the communal areas reading/playing a game/having a drink - just like you can do in your own home. We will absolutely be visiting again!

What a fantastic place! We stayed at this hotel with a package from Headwater. It was our first time trying cross country skiing and our package included equipment hire, guiding, all food, one yoga class, use of the sauna and shared living areas with unlimited tea/ coffee. We found the hotel extremely friendly and comfortable. All of the staff were helpful and approachable. The food was varied and excellent. I am a vegetarian and my meals were all extremely tasty and well presented - thank you chefs! Our equipment was all very good with help from the ski store to sort any problems we had. Our guiding and instruction was fantastic - thanks so much to Jane for her excellent coaching, and great guiding and inspiration from Tron and Venka. We were taken on some great routes - the best being our trip up one of the nearby mountains with fabulous views over the surrounding area. We also had plenty of opportunity to explore the trails by ourselves - the area is well signposted and the steeper tracks are well marked on the maps with chevrons. There really is nothing I could fault with our trip and I wouldn’t hesitate to return again in the future. Thanks Venabu Fjellhotel!

We stayed for a week at Venabu recently with family and friends, and had a wonderful time. As a group, we stayed in 2 cabins rather than in the hotel, and booked everything directly. The first thing to mention is that our flight to Oslo was cancelled at the last minute, and we had to take a later flight the same day. We ended up arriving at Venabu very late, after midnight. All the staff we contacted at Venabu, for advice, were super helpful, and someone stayed up late to show us to our cabins. We were also left provisions in the cabins - milk, bread, ham, cheese etc - as we'd missed dinner and the supermarket had closed hours before. It was really appreciated and made a big difference to the start of our holiday. Our cabin (Haugbu North) was cosy, warm and comfortable, with a well equipped kitchen. There were some minor flaws like a shortage of wardrobe space and the lack of any mirrors close to a plug socket (other than the bathroom), but these were just details and didn't affect our stay. Also perhaps the cabin would have benefitted from an additional bathroom - our cabin was for 7 people with one bathroom - but again that wasn't really a problem as there were only 3 of us! This was our first experience of cross country skiing and we really enjoyed it. The set up at Venabu is great and the trails start very close to the hotel. We had a private lesson on the first day, and did our own thing the other days. We also rented snowshoes from the hotel and had great fun exploring in the deep snow! Although we stayed in a cabin, we used some of the facilities at the hotel - the atmosphere felt very relaxed and every member of staff we encountered was so friendly. We loved the special Norwegian dinner on the Wednesday evening! Venabu is in a beautiful setting, and we came home feeling very relaxed and refreshed. We'd definitely like to return again in the future

Excellent hotel, comfortable rooms especially in the west wing. Staff are friendly and very helpful both inside the hotel and with outdoor activities. Beautiful location. Very good food and great choice. They will also cater for people with food allergies. I would highly recommend this family run hotel.
