We are experienced travellers and have stayed in hotels ranging from 2 to 5 stars. Invariably, in all of them, the person at the front desk would greet us politely and show interest in making our stay comfortable. And this is exactly what we expected when we arrived at the Jarke. We had read mixed reviews but nothing prepared us for what we encountered. We got out of the elevator and started walking on the long corridor, expecting to be welcomed. Instead of a welcome, however, we were greeted by a very loud and very rude "Close the door!" We had no idea what was happening. Evidently, we didn't realize that the inner door to the elevator had to be closed. We were quickly shown to our room--which had been booked quite in advance. It was absolutely unacceptable: small, dark, with no insulation from noise (we could hear the person walking outside, in the hallway, as if they were inside the room) with the view of a wall. This room should have NEVER been rented to a guest! I went to the front desk to ask for a different room--the receptionist did not speak any English and I don't speak Spanish. (I had left my phone in the room so I didn't have Google translate--and the receptionist absolutely refused to use his phone which had Google translate!). There was no other room available--so we set out to find a different accommodation (which, by the way, we did, in a better location than the Jarke and for a lower price!). Only when we returned to the Jarke and informed him that we were leaving did he use Google Translate, trying to convince us not to leave because we could move to a better room the next day. We left.
