Karongwe Portfolio - Chisomo Safari Camp

The accommodation and adventure here fantastic! The food and service was 5 star and the location is nestled in the park so the wildlife can walk through the camp day and night. Make sure to take the morning guided walk if it is available. Definitely ask for Jack as your driver and Ramondo as your tracker if it’s possible. They were great about fielding questions.

Sydney, our guide, and Ignacious, our tracker, made our visit to Chisomo Safari Camp and the Karongwe Private Game Reserve a highlight of our trip. And they looked after us in camp (servers, porters, security) as well as out in the reserve! Sydney's sense of humour made the game drives so much fun, on top of all the insight he shared about the animals, birds, plants and insects. Watching Ignacious observe tiny hints that led to an animal made us realize just how seriously and successfully he takes his role. Over three game drives, we saw all the Big Five and more! Their attention to our comfort, questions and quest for the perfect photo was much appreciated. Back at camp, the comfy well-appointed tents, amenities and guest care did not go unnoticed. We highly recommend this lodge for a visit.

We had two nights and three days at Chisomo and couldn't be happier. Our accommodation (glamping tents) were beautiful. The food served is delicious and plentiful. But, the animals were why we were there and we were not disappointed. Our guide Jack and spotter Eddie were both great and we were lucky to see all of the "big five". We highly recommend a visit to Karongwe - you won't be disappointed.

Amazing place & experience. Beautiful location and tented rooms with monkeys and warthogs everywhere! Excellent game drives and knowledgeable & fun guides & trackers. We saw lots of animals up close and personal!

Our tent was absolutely gorgeous - it looked out onto the game reserve and one day we saw elephants (babies too), giraffes, kudos, impalas, warthogs, monkeys and baboons all from our deck. The dining tables were always decorated wonderfully and the service was impeccable. We had massages at the spa which were wonderful. We were there with our tour group for two nights and it was our favourite place of the 19 day tour.

What a wonderful experience with the entire CHISOMO Camp team. So friendly and helpful in all situations. Accommodation in comfortable tents makes the safari experience exceptional. The rangers live up to their reputation as expert bloodhounds in tracking wild animals. I recommend 200%

The tents at Chisomo were beautiful and clean. The beds were comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Extra attention was taken for safety for evening time with the animals around. Lovely place to stay. Our guides on our game drive were fantastic - Thank you Jack and Earnest for your expertise and the fun. You made our trip unforgettable. We cannot wait to come back.

Of all the safari lodging we stayed at while in Africa, this was the most accessible and least-adventurous. The tents were very comfortable (the showers had consistent water pressure and heat, which was not consistent at other locations). The food was delicious and familiar (we joked that it felt like we were eating food on a cruise ship). This was the busiest safari lodge we stayed at by quite a bit - other locations would often only have one other group of guests, whereas this place had many groups of guests (maybe 5+ groups?). The game drives had a good pacing of animal sightings. Due to the larger number of groups going out for game drives, we more frequently encountered jeeps full of people - at previous lodges with less people this was very rare. Overall a very comfortable and relaxing way to experience safari. I couldn't escape the feeling that I was doing the cruise-ship version of safari. That's not necessarily a negative, but it certainly felt different from the more isolated safari locations we stayed at on this trip.

I can't think of anything I didn't like about this lodge. The customer service was outstanding! Everyone from the Manager to the kitchen staff and in between really cared about making your experience a memorable one. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to be working there. When you returned from game drives, they were there providing you with wet, warm wash clothes for freshening up. The meals were all very good. Lunches were outside at a beautiful decorated table. The last evening we had a nice fire and dinner outside. Food was very tasty and well prepared. The rooms were very comfortable and nice. Very good water pressure in the showers. A space heater was provided in the room which helped, since I was there in Winter. Free Wi-fi in the rooms which I greatly appreciated! That was so helpful and convenient. The bed was comfortable as well as the whole room. Hair dryer provided. Each night after dinner, someone would escort you (with flashlight) to your cabin for safety. As with other lodges, you will have animals wandering the property which is nice. The game guides and spotters were fabulous. Very accommodating and knowledgeable. Although there isn't a guarantee of what animals you'll see, the guides did their best to give us the best safari experience possible. We did see a nice variety of animals. We learned a lot. The spotter had amazing eyes regarding spotting animals and birds. This lodge does not disappoint.
