Twizel Holiday Park

We stayed here for 3 nights on a powered site. Only booked a few days before so the sites that were left weren't huge but that's what is to be expected over school hols. Lady who ran the camp was very friendly and helpful when I asked if we could book another night. Very good nightly prices compared to other camps. Toilets, showers and kitchen very clean. Beautiful view of the mountains and very quiet campsite but nice and close to the centre of twizel. Ground os quite hard so some of my pegs I had trouble hammering in the whole way which is normal for twizel. I would def stay here again

Good points - hot showers. Level areas with grass matting. Close to town. Bad points The toilet/shower block is poorly lit and smells. Not at all pleasant. Laundry only one washing machine operating all others and all dryers out of order. Not good enough when you are paying $48 a night for a powered site. If facilities are not available you should be offered a discount. I would not recommend this park.

Arriving around 3pm, the check-in lady was annoyed when I turned up because she wanted to go on her late lunch break. She quickly took the money and showed on the site map where our site was. We booked and paid for a non powered site but we were given a powered site. I'd normaly be happy with this, but the site was just a dusty space. I wasn't expecting green grass, brown dried grass would have been fine. Attached photos. Everything in our caravan awning got covered in dust. I realise the management can't stop the wind but this is not a site worth paying for. It's what you'd expect if your late in to a freedom camping spot. It was also extremely narrow to get the caravan into. No playground or anything for kids. Wifi is awful. Alot of signs with rules everywhere. They also write on the sign the punishment if the rules are broken, and that security cameras watching. Just what you like to read as you go in for your shower. My wife talked to a staff member when they were finally cleaning the bathrooms after leaving their dirty cleaning rags in one of the three sinks available for around 15 hours. The lady didn't care about any of the issues, apparently we booked late and thats why we got that spot. She said they have lots of good reviews. She said she'd let the manager know and they'd come visit us. We never saw anyone. Don't waste your money here.

Planning for a track to Mt Cook we decided to stay 2 nights at Twizel Holiday Park. However - the room lay-out was very inconvenient! Main issue we had was a power cut in the night but even at 7-8-9 am nobody from the holiday park was svailsble - even by phone sending an urgent message as it became very cold etc. We left and heard power was back 11:40 am . For making coffee the water cooker could not be filled under the tap . It needs a great makeover in my opinion as the price was also high

Cold and bathroom did smell like urine. Also after we checked in we went out fishing and locked the door behind us. When we arrived home found the room was unlocked our curtains pulled and heat pit turned right down.

The staff were very friendly and overall you get what you pay for. The unit was small with nothing extra included. A bonus was the communal kitchen so we had access to utensils and washing up facilities. It's an easy drive to Mt Cook NP and to Lake Tekapo.
