Never again will I support this hotel. They cancelled our booking 3 days before our stay. Putting greed before customers. It's pride wk end so they can charge more for their rooms. Thanks alot, we've had this room booked for months. Disgusting way to be treated

Hotel was an old 15th Century Coaching Hotel so expect the usual creaky floorboards, tired inside appearance and old woodwork. However it was very comfortable and served an excellent breakfast although in a very dark gloomy breakfast room with little natural light. Hotel is situated in the town centre with abundance of shops, bars and eating places. On our visit, I was told by reception it had not long reopened and at the time we went for an overnight stay, 20th Sept. 2024, there was no bar or afternoon snacks or evening meals available but were being reintroduced soon as some renovation was being done. Plenty of nearby eating places available and a lovely 15th century Tudor pub a few doors away. Housekeeping could do with some improvement as worn carpets in corridor needed a good hoovering. All staff very helpful and friendly. I would not recommend for persons with limited mobility issues as being a very old building, there are no lifts and the mazes of corridors are on different levels with lots of steps as it appears the hotel is made up several adjoining buildings. On-site car parking is on a first come, first served basis at £5 per night. No safe or phone in room. I would stay here again for an overnight stay.

Well, I have just returned from a break staying at The Lion Hotel in Shrewsbury.. Although we had to cut short our break due to a family bereavement, I thought I would have to mention this... We booked it on the grounds of what was described on the website.... It clearly states about the food available, and even menu items, and about the Tudor Bar, which we would have loved to have sat and have a drink in... But on arrival, we found out this was not the case... There was no food available at all, the restaurant and bar were not even operating, and the hotel does not even have an alcohol license... The afternoon teas are meant to be one of the best, and highly rated, and my wife was so looking forward to one... To add insult, the front desk staff have mentioned this to the head office on numerous occasions, as they have to deal with so many guest complaints.. The hotel, or head office have refused to answer my query. However, that aside, we did enjoy our brief say. Parking was £5 a night, and at the hotel, The rooms were warm and clean, but a little outdated, which we did not mind. Was not expecting a premiere inn...The breakfast was excellent, great choice both hot and cold. The staff we encountered were also nice and friendly.. There are so many other places to eat and drink in the town, just a short stroll away.

We have stayed at this hotel for many years. So glad it has re opened. Stayed last night 19th of Sept. Took our two medium sized dogs. Staff were very welcoming and accomadating. Room was clean and tidy. We booked directly at £70 + £5 parking. Located in centre of town. Our breakfast was very well layer out. Toast machine, fresh fruit, pasties, yogurts, coffee machine. Full English. Dogs given sausages, lovely touch. Looking forward to going back. Good value for money all round for £75.

Really caring, helpful service particularly over the phone when booking, from Sam on the Reception. Everyone helped to order taxis when needed to the hospital. Breakfast was enough for the whole day! Ate at a delightful Thai restaurant close by.

Just had 2 days at Lion Hotel. Amazing. All staff were incredibly fabulous and went above and beyond. Stairways are a bit tired however our room was amazing. New carpet smell hit us as soon as we opened the door. How lovely! New quality beds and bedding . Amazing location in the centre of. Shrewsbury with parking and the very reasonable charge of £5 per day. We'll be back.

Was disappointed with the hotel and room, looks great on photos but room was nothing like them. Toilet didn't flush properly even though we informed you the receptionist Sam but nothing wasn't done about it. Breakfast was slow serving 35mins wait and cold. Place in big need of revamp although it advertised its had a renovation, not sure where. Would definitely not recommend

Wonderful position for visiting Shrewsbury, no problem parking in their car park. Fantastic breakfast consisting of both continental & cooked. I asked for a hard yoked fried egg & actuallyy got it, well done Chef! The staff were friendly & helpful. The downside was the tired state of the building, the carpets on the stairs are getting so worn before long they will be a trip hazzard. Rooms were clean but some are very outdated - the basin in one of our rooms was seriously cracked & the shower heads looked like 1920/1930s! Springs felt throught the mattress did not make for a very comfortable night. I feel so sorry for the staff, who are doing their utmost in a building that is literally falling to pieces, it must be so demoralising for them when the owners can't be bothered to improve things - the staff are the ones who take the brunt of complaints, not the owners.
