After selecting the eastern coast of Sardinia as our honeymoon destination we came across Hotel Abba e Murta for its rural charm and beautiful pool. Our hopes of a serene and peaceful stay in the Sardinian countryside turned quickly into a search for other accommodations. Upon arrival, guests are greeted with large muddy puddles created by the sprinkler system that doesn’t seem to ever be shut off and no staff available to help maneuver luggage around the submerged pavers. The one staff member who checked us in was friendly and provided a brief tour of the hotel and showed us to our room and informed us about dining/breakfast times etc. The room is small, hot, and overly perfumed. There was a mini fridge available but with a warm interior. The bed was very firm and the bedspread stained in areas. The bathroom had everything one needs for a very basic stay although the shower door did fall off the track mid-shower. No Wi-Fi is available at the property. Traversing the lobby and common areas of the hotel you’ll notice high vaulted ceilings, unique art, and tables for guests to lounge. All lovely until you notice two of the glass doors are shattered; both an eyesore and hazard. We gathered from the images online that that pool was the gem of this property. The shallow warm water provided a sense of calm among all the other undesirable aspects of the property we encountered. Just steps away from the large pool, past all the broken deck furniture and splintering wood chairs, guests will find a small shallow splash pool that would ideally would be great for kids or a quick cool-off. Unfortunately, we did not enter as the water was dirty and the tile crumbling. The missing tiles were discarded into the lawn off the pool deck. The restaurant on the property was pleasant. It offered a traditional Sardinian menu and a great sunset view over the mountains. I wouldn’t dine there every night as the moths and mosquitos were quite bad later in the evening, but overall a nice experience.
