We visited Thiruvannamalai for a spiritual trip — to offer prayers at the Annamalaiyar Temple and spend time at Sri Ramana Maharshi Ashram. Ours was a short stay of just one night as we were traveling from Nagercoil and had plans to proceed to Vellore and back to Nagercoil the next day. After reading several positive reviews online, we decided to book this hotel in advance. However, the experience was quite disappointing. We arrived at the hotel around 9 PM. To our surprise, the property was still under construction. The entrance, parking area, and steps were all unfinished and messy, which was never mentioned on their booking page. Since we had already paid in advance, we proceeded to check in. The room itself was decent — clean, nicely furnished, and the bathroom was also well-maintained. At first glance, it seemed promising. However, the real trouble began with the air conditioning. The room was uncomfortably warm. We called the reception and were told it was a centralized ducted split AC system, and it would take 30 minutes to cool. But it never did. We called again, and a technician came and said he adjusted the settings. Still, the room remained hot and stuffy. We were exhausted from our long journey and tried to sleep. The bed had only a thick comforter with no bed sheet or thinner option, and we started sweating badly. It became unbearable. We called the staff again, and they kept trying to fix the AC for nearly 2 hours during the night, but nothing worked. No alternate room was provided either. Eventually, I had to request a bed sheet and remove the thick blanket just to get some minimal rest. Unfortunately, the entire night was disturbed and uncomfortable — truly a miserable experience. Next morning, we visited the temple and ashram. Upon returning around 9:30 AM, the breakfast area was almost empty, and most items were already over. We didn’t even bother complaining at that point. At checkout, I expressed my frustration and politely requested a refund or at least a partial refund for the AC, as we were unable to sleep. The manager, Mr. Palani, responded in a rude and insensitive manner, completely dismissing our concerns without any empathy. Overall, beware of misleading reviews. Many seem paid and do not reflect the actual state of the hotel. If you are planning a peaceful visit to Thiruvannamalai, I strongly advise doing thorough research before booking this place. Our stay was not worth the money we paid — especially for a night of zero sleep.
