I recently stayed at Hickory on Penang Hill and had a truly memorable experience. The location is serene and peaceful, ideal for those looking to unwind and enjoy nature. The weather was pleasant, and the surroundings were calm – perfect for a relaxing getaway. The sign boards were kept at the right place, so that visitors can reach the resort without any challenges. One of the most exciting parts was the 15-minute walk through the forest from the top of Penang Hill to the resort – a short but thrilling experience that nature lovers will appreciate. Raaj, the owner, was extremely kind and polite, making us feel genuinely welcome. The staff were equally friendly and helpful, even assisting us in preparing some of the meals we requested – which added a nice personal touch to the stay. While the train service stops at the nearby station only once every hour, it wasn’t a major issue. Just something to plan around. Honestly, I have nothing bad to say about the property – everything met or exceeded expectations. A special tip for visitors: Don’t miss “The Habitat” – a stunning natural attraction on Penang Hill. It’s a real treat for nature lovers. Guests at Hickory get a 20% discount, and Raaj can assist with this as well. If you're looking for peace, comfort, and warm hospitality in a natural setting, Hickory is a wonderful choice. Highly recommended

DO NOT under any circumstance book Hickory Bungalow on Penang Hill. Our stay in this delightful bungalow was destroyed by the owner renting out the rest of the bungalow to a dozen low life Penang drunks who proceeded to break every rule and party through the night. My family faced abuse, insults and intimidation as the night wore on. The noise carried on until 4 and sleep was out of the question. The staff cowered in fear, the owner’s daughter was powerless, and my wife spent most of the night ready to call the police. If we could have got a jeep to get away in the night, we would have. It was dreadful, and apparently not the first time this has happened. If the owner prioritises drunk ****** over people who actually want to enjoy what the hill has to offer, and puts guests in such difficult positions, he does not deserve your business.

Stayed 2 nights with a group of friends. Will definitely go back. Glorious renovation of an historic building. Food was beyond expectations. View is extraordinary. Staff really helpful. Rooms very comfortable. Took Penang Hill train to the top then wandered down enjoyingthe mist and rain. Path A to the end. Then over the little bridge you can see below roadside. At end of that path keep going down;it's steep. Go past the signs to the train station and you'll see Hickory signs. Thanks Raj for helping me when I got lost in mist. Friend's took jeep there.

Our group spent 2 nites at this Bungalow. It is run by Mr Raj, wife and his team. A bungalow converted into a homestay. They have different sizes of rooms. The view from the bungalow is breadth taking. It a peaceful retreat for you to relax your mind and soul. The hospitality is like your second home. Rooms are clean and comfortable. The room rates include breakfast. It is a set breakfast either western or local. Enjoyed the food and large portioning. Night we had BBQ over seeing penang city. We really enjoyed our stay there and thanks to Mr Raj and his friendly team.
