A huge thank you to the member of staff, I think called Cecelia, who made our stay here. She checked us in at reception, served us drinks from the bar, took orders and served at dinner, recommended a lovely wine, chose my cheeses and we saw her the next day either supervising or doing the housekeeping of the rooms, she wasn't on duty when we left so couldn't thank her personally. All the staff were pleasant and helpful but I gained the impression that as in the UK they are all very busy as hospitality staff are scarce. Service at dinner was slow, the hotel was full. As others have said the hotel is situated off a busy main road in a shopping and light industrial area but has lovely grounds, well maintained, and ample parking. The bedrooms are in a block separate from the reception and dining areas. We walked up to old Thiers, about two miles away, for the exercise, its more pleasant, if a little further to go through the residential area back from the main road. It has a history as a knife making centre and particularly interesting to me was to walk up the river past many waterfalls and now abandoned industrial buildings, some reutilised, some not.
