We stayed at the Matavai Appartments as we wished to be self contained. The apartments were roomy and comfortable and enabled us to prepare our meals with relative ease. The bed was very comfortable and we all loved the pillows. It was great having fan and air con. Highly recommend having either apartment 1, 2,3 or 4 as it was overlooking the gorgeous sea.

It's all about Location, Location, Location! A little beauty of a 3-star resort offering all the usual amenities. We stayed for 2 weeks (flights to/from the country were only weekly and one week, we felt, would be a little too short to really experience Niue. Development plans include a total re-build/remodel of the main dining areas, bar and reception. Also, plans afoot for growing own fruit & veggies onsite. Hopefully management will upgrade the access to the reef flats and tide pools directly under and in front of the bar/dining deck area. Up close and personal views and encounters with Humpback Whales during their yearly migration visit! WE were able to visit a wide range of eateries (check on which days and when they are open) and visited many tracks down various cliffs to access caverns, tide pools and beaches. A hire car is a must as not public transport on off for the island nation.

We stayed at the Matavai apartment units down the road as the main resort was full. The units are located a short drive from the main resort and it has its own pool, BBQ and seating area, a satellite reception with freezers for each unit, a washer and dryer and also a telephone with a directory for Reception and restaurants. Our unit had excellent air-conditioning, a kitchenette with a hot plate, fridge and microwave. It's a great option for families as each unit sleeps up to 4: a king sized bed and a sofabed suitable for kids. Check in was easy and the cold welcome drinks and cold towels were a treat. Reception conveniently sorted out a rental car as they have some parked at the main resort carpark! Special mention to Elaine who was amazing and organised everything for us so efficiently! The resort also has Airport transfers and a welcome orientation for guests. The two pools at the main resort are great and it was nice to enjoy a cold slushy from the pool bar. The breakfast buffet had a good selection. The usual hot selection including scrambled eggs, sausage, hash, fish, fresh coconut bread, cereals and fruit, cold juices but no cold cuts. They also had an a la carte menu and it was nice to see the local police force also enjoying breakfast there one morning because the view is incredible! We had some lunches and dinners there which was handy with everything closed on Anzac day, but the service was a bit slow. Their umu buffet night is delish and fun with a live performance from friendly locals. The food was great with a spitroast pig, lamb, chicken and other island delicacies. Some vegetarian friendly options too. They provide the guests with a daily newsletter with a schedule of resort activities and island activities. The apartment units were great to stay at but next time we will stay at the main resort so we can easily walk to breakfast and dinner.

The hotel staff are all lovely and very welcoming. Especially Tina on reception and Papu in the restaurant. Though really they are all great. They really want you to enjoy your stay. Keith and Sue the island orientation people are great as well and well worth the experience. The food is mostly local when possible and very tasty. Apparently a new chef. The islanders are friendly and helpful and wish a great trip and hope you will come again. Immigration is smooth. Cases are delivered to you door low season. The snorkling is great and fish are inquisitive and baeutiful. We were unable to take a boat out to fish, dive or whale watch due to swells and high tides but have been ashored that May onwards would be able to do all tgese things. Recommend a visit.

We had fun exploring lots of caves and chasms around the island, and snorkeling in the Limu Pools. The vanilla farm tour was very interesting and we purchased some of their top quality products. And of course we couldn't leave without some Niue honey too. Our stay at the Scenic Matavai Resort was pleasant with friendly and helpful staff. The food was yummy with a good selection of dishes on the menu. The breakfast buffet had a great selection of food and dishes and I particularly enjoyed the coconut bread, toasted with the delicious Niue honey drizzled on most mornings. Happy Hour was great as we relaxed with cocktails in the pool in the afternoon while chatting to other guests about our adventures for the day. I also enjoyed a couple of mocktails for something different to try. Our room was clean and comfortable and we were thankful for the fan and air conditioning.

Lovely place to relax, you can see whales,dolphins from pool deck and rooms We took the transfer and it was great even taking us twice on last day, once for the luggage then back for a swim in pool and sunbath, quick beer and back to the airport for final check in, fabulous service. Tina in reception, looked after us, booked dinners if we were not eating in hotel, Even arranged a special dinner for our anniversary, special thanks. Loved the daily news delivered to our door each morning.

I was at the Scenic Matavai resort on the 24th and 25th to use the pool and I bought drinks on both days. Pupa was very friendly and gave me the greatest service I could ever ask for, and played one of my favourite songs. I will and have recommended Matavai to friends and family. Fakaaue lahi

The pillows were lovely food was tasty. great location and eay access to sea tracks and beaches. Staff Eliane, Papu, James, Tina, Jick and Posa were all very friendly and made our stay memorable. definitely coming back to enjoy this beautiful place when the whales are about.

This is my second visit to Niue and the Matavai Resort. It is a wonderful place to stay wth beautiful rooms, lovely sea views where you can see dolphins and whales in season from the balcony. The food is great with a menu suitable for everyone. Lots of locals come to dine as well. Daily newsletters keep you up to date with what’s happening on the island and places of interest to visit. The staff are friendly, kind and well trained and will soon remember your name and what type of coffee you like!

Stayed at the Matevai while working on the island. It has been a great experience. The staff are friendly and helpful, the breakfasts are great and the location couldn't be better. Would definitely recommend staying here if you're visiting Nuie

A very pleasant resort with helpful staff. The General Manager is excellent and personally helped with sorting things out. The location and views are fabulous. The hotel is undergoing renovations, but the work is constructed discreetly.

Spent a week there with the fam and had an awesome time! Great place, helpful staff, really nice food and all in all just a really good time was had by all. Matavai resort was great, managed by James- and his front of house staff Tina & Elaine were brilliant with their great customer service,knowledge and overall friendliness. All the rooms were clean, had air conditioning and a little fridge to keep drinks cold. The bedding was pristine and comfy. The kitchen created delicious food using local produce. We tried everything on the menu! One of our highlights was the delicious coconut cocktails Eteveni would make at the pool bar. What’s not to love! Enjoying cocktails served in fresh coconuts on a tropical island-total bliss
