Thalassi Hotel

Just got bck from This wonderful family run hotel wow the Thalassi really do go all out the mother inlaw had a 2nd floor room and due to her gammy leg 🦵 she couldn't get up there we told em they changed it to bottom floor a.s.a.p and appoligsed which was cool food great bar staff gold lovely and quiet if u want more buses cheap as chips and plenty of places ta go this hotel is gold and we're deffo go bck with others deffo worth a look u won't fault it

Just returned from a week at Thalassi and needed to write a review about this little gem of a hotel. Family run property service cannot be faulted, rooms excellent value for money. Staff from the waitresses up to the Management cannot be faulted for their attitude, personalities and willingness to help. For those who like to explore there's a regular bus service just down the road too. I can see why people return year on year.

What can I say about our visit to the Thalassi hotel Crete. We arrived after midnight on our first day due to flight delays and a 2 hour transfer from the airport. My sister in law had emailed asking for a room on a lower floor due to her husbands ill health, although some rooms were on a lower level we were put in two rooms on what they said was the ground floor but up two flights of stairs or a steep hill. On the first night the two women walked down to see the manager and were spoken to inappropriately by what turned out to be a member of staff. The next morning we went to breakfast which was boring bland and not hot some of the food looked like it was yesterday’s left overs . A choice of fruit juice’s all of which were obviously watered down and members of staff watching every thing you took. Breakfast for us was usually fruit toast and coffee then eat out. Both rooms were quite nice but it’s the only place I have ever stayed that doesn’t have complimentary tea and coffee just a kettle. Everyone there were really nice and some of them told us that the off site restaurant was not up to much and we ate out on our first day. The next morning breakfast was no better than the day before but we decided we had to try the restaurant as we were on half board. That evening we went to the restaurant and I have to say the only good thing I can say about it was the view of the sun going down on the horizon. The food was a four choice buffet or you could book a table and order food if you paid extra. The choices of the buffet were pork that I can’t eat which was lucky for me because it was a half inch of fat with a slither of meat, a fish option which again I can’t eat and if I could I would not because the fish still had a head and tail, a battered chicken option which I tried and turned out to be all batter and bone with a small amount of dry tasteless chicken, the fourth option was go without. Four of us tried various meals and not one of us ended up eating anything but salad and rolls. I went for a second roll and a member of staff watched me like I was a shoplifter. We had a visit from the manager who enquired about our meals and insisted on telling us about about a customer who had told him that his pork was the best he had ever had. It certainly was not on the night we were there I can only describe the food we had was uneatable crap and I really could not see why I should pay again for the food on the other option because it could have been the same crap. Three of us left the restaurant with many more insect bites than we went in with. On our way back to the hotel we saw a taverna and as we were all hungry we decided to give it a try and every item of food was delicious and less expensive than the hotel restaurants pay extra menu . We worked out that if we had to pay extra for decent food we were just as well going out to eat we never tried the restaurant again. On initial arrival we were offered a room we did not request, eventually rectified. In temperatures of over 30 C it is totally wrong to charge for AC. Fair enough if you don't have it but if you do don't charge €6 Euros a day extra! Also why are you charging for the use of a safe thats in the room already? The food offered at the restaurant for half board was dire, spaghetti, rice, chips, bolognais sauce, tomatoe ssauce every single night and some really dried uunappealing protien options often swimming in fat. Also made to feel like we didn't matter at all because the best seats were reserved for unknown a la carte guests that may pr may not turn up. I was told I could not bring in my own water in a bottle and no water was offered (unless you obviously wanted to pay for it). I continued to bring my own water as needed to stay hydrated in the heat. A 20% discount is offered for those that wanted the a la carte instead of the unappetising buffet, but wait havn't we already paid for a meal? Just don't offer the buffet and charge less. That way we can choose where we wish to eat and perhaps your offerings may improve. Beach was very unkempt and looked nothing like the photos on display and the artifical grassy area with sunbeds next to the restaurant was not appealing at all. When we did sit by the pool at the hotel we were being watched and told we could not bring our tea cups from our room to the poolside, but we could buy tea from them! Staff were smoking behind the bar. General impression, if you buy from the pool and restaurant you are made very welcome, if you choose not to then they don't care, why would they as they are not going to make anymore money from you? Its a 40 minutes bus ride to Rethimno and buses are only once an hour and already full in June. The driver left people at bus stops because the bus was so full. The hotel has a mini bus and could easily offer dropouts and pick ups. Overall a holiday on the beautiful island Crete totally ruined by this establishment. Talking to other guests they agreed the food was dire so I do believe the 5 star reviews are not genuine.

My Wife and I have stayed here in Thalassi Hotel, we were greeted very warmly on arrival and have had a super time here. The staff here are wonderful people and the hotel is the cleanest we have ever visited. The pool area we particularly enjoyed with drinks and afternoon snacks available which were delicious. For us we used the local bus service for our days out which had AC so no worries of parking etc . We truly have had the best holiday. Great work Thalassi hotel. We would definitely come stay with you again .

We had a very warm welcome ( at 2.30a.m ! ) from Eva at this friendly, comfortable family hotel. Stayed 15 nights on half board. We chose a spacious comfy superior room with pool view. Breakfast a really good choice of hot and cold options. Lovely Eleni served us in hotel and at Thalassi restaurant. Great bar, sunshades plenty of sunbeds around the pool. We had a car from the airport so travelled around this side of tge island. Particularly loved hilltop villages and nearby Rethymnon. Also Chania, Heraklion, Frankocastelo, other Ancient sites all within reach by car. The Thalassi restaurant is the icing on the cake, fabulous sunset views, twice weekly entertainment, Dimitrious makes the experience with his great warmth & presence. Also Anthony & Michael and the chef's. We will definitely return next year. Sad to go home from such a relaxing break.

Another fantastic stay at the Thalassi. Thank you to you all for making our stay so enjoyable, even if my health wasn’t the greatest this time. Lovely quiet hotel, good food and company. Myself and my husband arrived at the start of the holiday season so we were the first guests at the hotel. The room we had was large and spotless. We went for dinner and because we were the only guests there was no buffet. The owner Mr Demetris gave us various traditional greek dishes after our long trip. The food was delicious and filling. The restaurant has wonderful views of the sea and sunsets. Mrs Eva was warm, welcoming and always happy to help. Steffi the hotel bar lady was a fun happy lady and it was lovely to sit at the bar to laugh and chat. Afew days later more guests arrived and the buffet breakfast and dinner was out for guests. The food was lovely the chefs are good at what they do. It was a pleasure to stay and will be going back. If you want a nice relaxing holiday with wonderful staff and delicious food this is the place to go. The staff makes you feel like you are part of the family. Wonderful hospitality.

This is not a proper hotel it’s more of a guesthouse and I don’t think it should be sold by TUI with the description it is given because it is very misleading . As soon as the coach drew up outside I knew we were in trouble ! We had to carry our suitcases up a couple of flights of stairs to a chalet , it kind of reminded me of old style butlins / a holiday camp . Our room was nice as it had been refurbished but we did have to pay extra for air conditioning which is unacceptable when considering the price paid for the holiday . The best part and the only good thing about this hotel was the shower it was actually the best shower I’ve ever used , a really good power shower. When we arrived there was a kettle in our room which wasn’t much use as there wasn’t any water , other people have said they had sandwiches and water in the fridge on arrival but ours was empty. The pool area is like being in your back garden , it’s very small and close together and didn’t look particularly clean another thing that gave off holiday camp vibes ! We went to find the Hotel restaurant for dinner which is supposed to be over the road , I have no idea how this can be classed as the Hotel restaurant when it is nowhere near the hotel ! The whole surrounding area is a dirty dive , just lots of dirt tracks , rubbish everywhere , abandoned cars and graffiti nothing nice about it and certainly not a little Greek village as you would imagine from the hotel description . You have to go through a dirty underpass which bizarrely cars can go through too?! We reached the restaurant and didn’t get a warm welcome , we were asked where we wanted to sit ( it was completely empty) so I said overlooking the sea please but was told that we couldn’t sit in the row of tables overlooking the see as that was reserved for off the street ala carte diners not hotel guests !! Not hotel guests who had paid a ridiculous amount to come here ! We took our second row seat and ordered a cocktail each , very expensive and neither of us thought they contained any alcohol so didn’t order another one . The dinner buffet opened and we went to see and seriously what a dire selection , I have no idea where these glowing reviews come from but this was like going to school dinners , rice pasta , sauce , some type of chicken in sauce and a fish and some chips . Soup & salad .Dessert was a pot of pink jelly …this was the same every day sometimes with the addition of grapes but that was it for desserts . The restaurant owner is very odd not friendly or welcoming just odd . We went to breakfast and it was like going to your nans dining room and there wasn’t even a table free so we were awkwardly hovering waiting for people to finish and go , the breakfast was not great there wasn’t a huge selection and again I have no idea how these people are giving it a great write up in reviews , it is without a doubt the worst hotel breakfast I’ve ever had , we only tried it one more time and didn’t bother again as it
