This quintessentially British hotel is one of my family’s favorites when visiting this part of the country. On this occasion, we visited for lunch in The Garden Room (Courtyard). We were fortunate to have an incredibly warm summer’s day, making outdoor seating an obvious choice. We enjoyed ice-cold white wine accompanied by Porlock Bay Oysters, which were large but not creamy, perfectly sweet to our preference. I then had the Haddock and chips, which were gorgeously battered to perfection. The service was exceptional, and the ambiance of the venue was even better. It was a thoroughly enjoyable lunch.

We selected to sit in the courtyard as we love the garden lounge menu. It was a lovely sunny Sunday afternoon & all 5 of us enjoyed our food & drinks. We loved the atmosphere, Sarah & her staff looked after us exceptionally. Our food was cooked to perfection, whether salmon, steak or lasagna and the desserts were to die for! Best profiteroles ever! There was a gentleman playing a piano which added to the ambience of Stamford’s finest dining spot. Walking back to the car park we then wished we had more time to sit in your beautiful lawned garden. We will be back in a few weeks for more delights!

Very charming coaching inn that is proudly traditional down to blankets on the beds and tea delivered to your room in the morning. Lovely comfortable rooms with excellent bathrooms although they might consider a few extras given the fairly stiff pricing. Warm staff who were considerate and courteous. Excellent old school dinner in the Oak Room restaurant was a real treat with lots of trolleys, fabulous beef carved table side, old school puddings. Breakfast was excellent and served to the table (no dreadful buffets here!). Lovely gardens, atmospheric public rooms and a real old world charm.

Went for lunch in The Oak Rook to celebrate my birthday. Everything was excellent. Food was on a level with the top London restaurants, and we could not find a fault. We had the same main, duck, bur different starters and puddings: crepe suzette prepared at the table in my wife's case. Staff were pleasant and efficient, service very good. Decor is very old fashioned but all the better for it. Expensive but worth the money for a special occasion.

Just returned from another delightful visit to The George. Fabulous Staff who ensure that all visitors are well looked after and only top quality products used in the very varied Menus. Love the decor so sympathetically thought out to blend with this beautiful building. Highly recommended.

Really enjoyed the old style service and traditional values at this prestigious hotel. Lovely room and early morning tea ordered for 8.00 promptly delivered on the dot of 8.00 am! Everything in the room is well thought out and placed just where you need it. Exceptionally clean, crisp bedding, lovely toiletries, hot shower. Especially warm thanks to breakfast staff Diane and Billy, both of whom remind one of proper silver service training and whom could both get a job at the Savoy if they wished.

What an amazing hotel. We were exceptionally well looked after and wanted for nothing during our stay. Staff were incredible, room was spacious and extremely well equipped and the breakfasts were truely delicious. This hotel is beautiful, friendly, charming and extremly customer focused. Will definitely be returning.

If anyone criticises this fantastic hotel then they are just very difficult to please. My wife and I had lunch here about 8 years ago and were very impressed. We returned to stay two nights and having in stayed in numerous five star hotels in various parts of the world this is so quintessentially English and just perfect in every way. Had a lovely room, staff couldn’t have been more helpful and food truly excellent. Can’t wait to return.

The best hotel we have stayed in for a long time. The hotel is steeped in history. All the staff we came across were very good. Reception desk staff hugely professional. Air conditioning in the bedroom and very comfortable. All food and drink very good.
