Specifically, my disappointment stems from my nana’s wake in the Cadogan Suite with around 40ish people. You catered food for 30ish people but It was agreed with my family that the suite's doors could be opened up to accommodate additional guests if necessary. Unfortunately, the arrangement of a table for another party later on in the evening obstructed the available space, leaving little room for our own needs. There were no chairs or tables for us in there, which left us having to pop a few glasses and plates at the end of the set table since we could not easily squeeze past the tightly arranged tables in the other room (there were only around 27 chairs around 3 large round tables). So it was either that or plates being put all over the floor. We’d popped them at the end and ensured there was nothing underneath them that could mark the table, I may add. When this issue was brought to the attention of a manager, a lady with a Bob and glasses (who waded herself round the tightly arranged tables with a face like thunder) she sternly stated that we could only stand in that half of room with nowhere to sit or put our drinks down. There was a lack of compassion and professionalism - no introduction to herself, no niceties or politeness at all. Her interaction was not accommodating, she did not provide any solution to the situation or offer any additional chairs. My partner even sat on the carpet to eat! She then walked away, and then stood at the bar area with her arms crossed in a bullish stance, which made us feel uncomfortable. After a hard, emotional day, we thought that we would be well looked after, but we left feeling quite upset. We had no choice but to stand just behind the dividing doors which led to the other half of the suite because it was extremely tight in that room leaving us nowhere else to stand. I work in hospitality, and that table that was set for the evening meal could’ve easily been set within 10-15 minutes. So I don’t understand why it needed to be there at that moment in time. If you couldn’t plan to fit more people in as a precaution (as discussed) due to having another function in the evening, then you should’ve said you couldn’t cater for our needs. As a FoH staff, I make sure that everyone feels looked after, too. We felt the level of service fell short of expectations. There were instances where we felt the staff could have been more attentive to our needs. Nobody walked around (maybe because even they couldn’t fit around) to check if everything was okay, more drinks etc. No greeting people on the way in or thanking them on the way out. Nothing. Honestly, it wouldn’t have been any different to if there were no staff in the room at all. The waiter was even stood behind the bar with his head in his hands. What a shame, we had high hopes for healing manor after since they have 4* And 2 rosettes - we never received this service….
