We booked through Secret Escapes. It was sold as a rural retreat on their site which is true and it didn't profess to suggest it was luxurious. Which is just as well because it may have been in its hey day but certainly it is a sad shadow of its former self. Tired and well worn with an air that no one seems to care about the place. On the surface it looks lovely but you don't have to look too hard to find that this is a veneer. Our superior king room was lovely and spacious however the air conditioning didn't work and the whole hotel is very warm. We resorted to leaving the balcony door open at night so that we could sleep. We noted other guests did the same. As for the breakfast...very basic selection and exceptionally low value. Welcomed by a fellow who obviously didn't care. You had to find your own cutlery. The cheapest instant coffee despite there being a proper coffee machine close by. Cheap bread, condiments, orange juice and sausages. There was no-one else having breakfast on our first morning and I hate to think how long ago the warm breakfast items had been cooked. You would think that it would make more sense to cook to order...it would take very little to make the breakfast a better experience. But it seems no one cares.

The only positive aspects of this establishment is that the bed was comfortable and the towels were thick! Upon arrival at a very out of the way resort, 5 miles from Wadebridge down a very narrow road, we were greeted by a receptionist who looked like the leisure receptionist, not a professional well dressed one. He busily looked up our booking ,informed us where breakfast and dinner were and gave us the key along with a sheet of paper. He did not show us to the room! The room was meant to be a superior king room. It was shabby, no bedside lights , no fan in the bathroom, the door to the balcony was very stiff and the balcony had an extraordinary amount of pigeon poo on it and obviously had not been cleaned. Breakfast the next day , was served in A cavernous room with not one table set! You had to fetch your own cutlery. The standard of cooked breakfast was that a a greasy spoon cafe and served in the same way! On returning to our room later that day we discovered that it had not been cleaned at all despite me requesting bed side lamps( one was provided) . Had a I read the piece of paper given , it informed us that unless requested, cleaning would not be undertaken for days of less than 5 . Really !! And then if requested not necessarily done if busy during busy times . This did not apply to us as it was very obviously that we were the only one staying. Apparently the hotel is about to be taken into new ownership next month. They serious need to review their delivery and upgrade the hotel if they want to maintain their current business There

We had a cottage booked in Cornwall for 3 nights and as the weather was nice decided to travel a day early. We booked a room for the night as from the pictures on line it looked nice. After booking we read the trip advisor reviews and were quite concerned from recent comments. On arrival we checked in and the people on reception were friendly and helpful. We had room 204 rather than a lodge. The room was lovely and clean and the bathroom was spotless. There was a large bath and good shower over it. We had a nice balcony with a couple of chairs and a table which we were not expecting. If I wanted to be really picky the carpet was slightly worn by the balcony door, it was clean so did not really matter. In the morning we used the poo and spa area which again were nice and clean. We didn’t eat at the hotel so cannot comment on the food . I would have no hesitation in recommending to friends and family and if in the area would use again

Great place we stopped for 1 night in the hotel. The room was great, spacious and the bathroom was large and spotlessly clean. All the staff were super friendly and helpful. The pool area and jacuzzi again spotlessly clean and we had a lovely time before heading off for our day. I think some of these reviews are unduly harsh. Ok so it’s clear the hotel has elements that are a little tired. But for 95 a night we couldn’t complain and I would definitely stop here again.

Shabby, tired place with mediocre food and depressing feel. Feels like it has been starved of investment for years. Breakfast at £15 a complete rip off. Bedrooms comfortable and spacious however, it was the communal areas that were the problem. One night was quite enough.

The resort is looking very tired, signs and gardens. The entrance is dark and looks uninviting. The staff on reception were very friendly and attentive. Our family room was huge but dark and very tired. It had not been cleaned that well, hand prints on windows, dust on surfaces, stains, bits on carpets, tv remote broken and someone else’s belongings in bedside drawer…….. bathroom was huge and clean with a nice shower. The spa was nice and clean and relaxing! Dinner and breakfast were very underwhelming. tasteless food, had to return nachos as not nice! Did not enjoy either meal and both expensive. £15 for breakfast!

I have no idea how this got a 4/5 scoring on trip advisor. I gave it a one for the lovely pool which was really relaxing and the staff at reception were welcoming. However when we were in the family room the floor under the bed was filthy and there were marks on the window, the cleaners had obviously not checked the room as the previous visitor had left things in the drawer. We thought having a meal in the restaurant would be a nice experience and helpful as on site, how wrong could I be, they defiantly need to either get another chef or send him/her on some urgent training as the food was awful. They use basic bottle ingredients and most must be bought in as no signs of any talent used. We stupidly also booked the breakfast, well thought they couldn't get that wrong, we were there early to luke warm food, minimal choice at a ridiculous price of £15 not even worth £5. Needless to say I will not be staying there again and advise friends also not to.

Stayed for one night to attend an event at the royal Cornwall showground. Room was dated but fine for a short stay. Pation door very difficult to close and lock. Bathroom clean and spacious. Breakfast overpriced at 15 pounds a head. Pool facilities good and clean. Staff friendly. Be aware taxi to and from resort to Royal Cornwall showground is 30 each way. However we knew this before booking and paid less for a room here than in the Travelodge near the venue. Overall would stay again
