Spark by Hilton Springfield Southwest

Decent hotel. Nothing overly fancy but for the price it was spot on. Clean and nice staff. However bring a sleep mask. The grounds lighting is shining into the 1st floor Executive Suite. Also the thermostat is a lie. It is NOT controlled at the wall. I tried to turn down the temp and after an hour it was 84 degrees. I turned the wall unit off and now the window AC is working to cool things off. Yikes. The staff, the location etc though are fine. Walking distance to a great Mexican restaurant and Target. Just bring a sleep mask to block out the light.

Good location w/ friendly staff. But,…much in need of maintenance. Electrical outlets didn’t work, torn sheer curtain, bathroom door wouldn’t close, tub dangerously slick to use, drawers wouldn’t stay closed and outdoor trash bins by entry over flowing.

My worst hotel experience. Closed due to a weather event that the Courtyard next door had also (but stayed open). Didn’t attempt to reach out to anyone that had a reservation. Found out they were closed when we arrived after a 14 hour drive. Refused to honor the Marriott Ultimate Reservation Guarantee. We had to find another place to stay before getting to a funeral. Not even an apology.

The room was clean and comfortable but we did have a few issues. Our room only had bath towels and no hand towels or wash cloths. We also only had one partial roll of toilet paper. When I went down to the desk to ask for hand towels, I had to insist that they were not in the room. I was then told that someone would bring them up. No one came that evening. We went down to the pool and there were no pool towels available there. I went to the front desk and was told that they were in the dryer. We went to the pool and expected to eventually see the towels but they never came. We had to return to our room soaking wet. The next morning, I requested the hand towels. Someone went into the back room and returned with wash cloths. The room darkening curtain in our room was partially detached from the top rail. This meant you couldn't completely close the curtain. If you like your room to be dark when sleeping, this wasn't going to happen since they use flood lights to illuminate the exterior of the building. I don't know what was going on at 12:30 AM on the first night, but we heard what sounded like running or jumping in the room above us or perhaps the hallway?

Sad night in a place we’ve stayed before - but probably not again. In town for one night. Room 209 needed a lot of TLC. Sheer curtain was torn. Tub drain plug was in pieces. Security latch on door was missing (THAT doesn’t make me feel safe) Breakfast was pretty picked over and we were there at 8AM. Worst was kids running up and down the hall all night. Hotel mgmt did NOTHING. They were running around when we checked in around 5. We went out and got back around 8. They were running up and down halls till 10 - yelling and laughing. I didn’t even feel safe going out in the hall to get ice. Yeah parents were absent but so was hotel management. We’ve stayed at this Fairfield before and never had a problem. I wouldn’t stay here again.

Outdated hotel with really poor staff. Only reason I stayed here was it was the lowest price of the Marriott/Hilton locations, and I can see why! Don’t waste your money at this dump! Much better hotels with more pleasant staff. This is a Red Roof Inn with a Marriott name.

I booked this hotel because they advertised a "heated pool". That was not the case. After my first attempt at swimming, I gave up as did two other adults there. Later I stopped at the front desk to inquire why the pool was so cold. I was told maintence tries to keep it at a good temperature and that they would let maintenance know the next morning. The next afternoon - pool was still cold. I went to my families for the afternoon and when I got back I was looking forward to a nice relaxing dip in the pool. Nope, no change. The next morning, no change, the next evening, no change. I have a condition that is very painful and I booked this hotel so I could releave the pain in the 'heated pool'. I got no relief and was so very disappointed.

I was surprised at the poor quality of a Marriott property. The bed was so hap-hazardly made that I wondered if it was clean. The way the TP was in the bathroom indicates the bathroom.was not clean, or, housekeeping hasn't been taught standards of presentation. Floors are not vacuumed along baseboards. Mold/mildew in the shower.

I am doing this review as I am sitting in this place so I can possibly stop someone from making the same mistake we did. Upon entering room no ac on so way hot. Once in the room floor creeks as if I was in an attic and after checking under the bed I found a soiled wash cloth which I can only assume was for nothing good. Mold on bath ceiling and strands of hair on plow case this is all I have found up to this point! I would have left but wife is too cheap . Oh yea the pool was closed off with Tape! By the Illinois Department of Health go figure.
