Stayed 3 nights. Sitka is quite small and everything in the town is within walking distance of everything else, apart ftom going to Japonski island for the airport and the Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center. You will need the hotel shuttle for that. We had a great view of the harbor and the spectacle of watching a cruise ship pirouette in the harbor when it was departing. The restaurant is physically attached to the hotel, but run as a separate operation, so one cannot charge meals to the room. The hotel is charming with a large enclosed area to watch TV or read. The only place that I’ve encountered that had books on shelves to read if it was raining too much that day. The collection of Nancy Drew books was surprising (see picture). I left a book there as well, just to try to provide for a little more diversity. We encountered the flight crew of our flight on the same shuttle van and were assured that this was the best hotel in Sitka. They routinely overnight in Sitka, so I would hope they know. No A/C in the rooms, it is an older hotel, but still quite nice. The fan was adequate to keep us comfortable at night and the window had a screen. We had apparently arrived on the best days (warm and dry) in the past two weeks. The lobby is often full of tourists here to fish for a few days, but that’s Sitka, not just that hotel.
