Hotel Dogana

What an absolutely amazing hotel. Staff was incredibly helpful and always friendly. The restaurant is also amazing and staff went out of their way to make this an amazing trip to Garda. We had 2 adults and 2 teenagers and the room was small but comfortable. Room was a bit warm even with AC but pool was a nice way to cool down.

We stayed at Hotel Dogana as part of an active break at Lake Garda. We booked it on the basis of it's location which is halfway between Peschiera del Garda and Sirmione, and it's price, we paid about £100 per night for bed and breakfast. We received a really warm welcome on check-in from the owner and our room was on the 2nd floor at the end of a corridor and with a small balcony. The room was a good size with an ensuite bathroom with walk-in shower, toilet, bidet and heated towel rail. There were also complimentary toiletries. Even though there was a sign to hang on the door to ask for the room to be cleaned ours was cleaned every day anyway, the cleaning staff were really friendly and efficient. We did have a slight issue with noisy pipes in the room but as soon as we told the owner he seemed really upset on our behalf and arranged for a plumber to come that day. The only thing that the room was missing from our point of view was a small fridge but that's only because we like to have cold drinks and keep some milk fresh for cups of tea! There was plenty of choice at breakfast. We seemed to be the only English guests so unsurprisingly it wasn't an English style breakfast selection. There were plenty of fruit juices, a coffee machine, cold meats, cheeses, hard boiled eggs, tomatoes, fruit, fruit salad and yogurts on one side of the room and on the other were cereals, dried fruit and seeds, bread rolls and loaves of bread, scrambled eggs and bacon, breakfast biscuits and finally the obligatory cakes that are part of an Italian breakfast. There was always more than enough to eat and everything was replenished as soon as it ran out. There was a restaurant attached to the hotel which seemed busy every lunch and evening but we liked to have a walk so didn't actually eat there ourselves. The hotel has a pool and sunbeds but apart from a young German boy and his Dad we were the only ones using it. It was a bit fresh but was a nice clean pool and pool area. From a location point of view there is a bus stop right outside with buses towards Peschiera and Sirmione/Desenzano every hour. There were also a number of restaurants within a 20 minute walk down towards the lake or along the main road towards Sirmione. There was a Lidl supermarket approximately 2km away and also a small but expensive (beers that were €2 on the shelf were €3 from the fridge) shop with limited opening hours a one minute walk away. We are quite active so were able to walk into the historical centre of Sirmione in about 90 minutes but there is a shuttle bus from Sirmione too. We also hired bikes at a reasonable €5 each to ride into Peschiera, there's a mix of cycle paths and on road cycling for those who feel confident enough to do so. It seemed that the majority of guests were German and they had come in their own cars but as we had arrived by train and bus, we had to rely on public transport to get around.
