My family and I recently stayed at Hotel Minareto with high hopes for a luxurious vacation. We booked a specific villa that was advertised to include stunning water views, a private pool, and two bedrooms with three bathrooms—perfect for my wife, two kids, and me. Initially, everything seemed fine upon arrival. However, our evening took a dreadful turn when our room became infested with thousands of bugs. The infestation was severe, with bugs covering our bed, floors, and even filling the bathtub. When we called the hotel staff, they admitted they had never seen anything like it before. The hotel moved us to another room, but this one lacked the features we had specifically booked: no water view, no pool, and no separate bedrooms for our kids. This was not the experience we paid for or expected. Due to the unacceptable conditions, we had no choice but to leave the hotel early the next morning. We incurred significant additional expenses, including thousands of dollars to book another hotel in Rome for the remaining nights and change our flights to leave Italy ahead of schedule. Despite our travel agent’s efforts to secure a refund, the hotel refused to accommodate our request. We had booked a specific villa and were not provided with an equivalent alternative. We couldn’t stay there even one night due to the infestation. To provide context, we had just come from four outstanding nights at the Four Seasons Taormina, which was exceptional in every way. I have stayed in many five-star hotels over the years and have never once had an issue or felt compelled to file a review in the last five years. If anyone needs pictures or more evidence of the bug infestation, please let me know. Our experience at Hotel Minareto was extremely disappointing and far from the luxury stay we had envisioned.
