The Eastbury & Spa

We had high hopes for the Eastbury but unfortunately were somewhat disappointed. Firstly, the location is fantastic, just a short walk to the beautiful town centre. On arrival we were shown to what I can only describe as an attic room, up some very old narrow stairs, with a musty smell. I appreciate this is an old building but how one would get out in a fire is anyone’s guess. The room was tired, dark, dusty, and thoroughly depressing. The end wall of the roof was painted a miserable ‘heavy smoker’ tobacco like colour. The bathroom, which like the gents toilets clearly had not been ‘completely renovated’ as the notice in the reception area states, in 2018, had probably last been looked at in the 1980’s. The light over the sink didn’t work, the awful noisy Mira shower struggled to deliver a shower due to thick limescale on the head, and there was no extractor fan. We spent as little time in the room as possible, preferring instead to walk the streets of Sherborne. The morning breakfast staff were attentive, the breakfast though was nothing special. A 5 star place this definitely isn’t. On checking out I had my feedback to give had anyone been bothered to listen. The woman on reception took my key, gave me my bill and we left. No ‘did you have a nice stay?’ or anything. We won’t be back and I’d urge others to spend their money elsewhere.

I was fortunate enough to win an overnight stay for two in a luxury double room with Dorset breakfast at The Eastbury Hotel & Spa. We stayed at the Hotel last week and couldn't believe that we had been booked into the luxury four poster suite complete with our own spa bath and a private walled courtyard. The staff were all very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. It's certainly the best Hotel we have stayed in, and hope to return very soon.

Lovely rooms, with everything you need. Staff are very friendly and attentive. The breakfast was delicious with lots of choice. Within easy reach of great eateries. Good walking round the area and plenty of things to do, or nice to relax in the lovely gardens.

Just perfect especially the breakfast. Gardens are eloquent. Rooms are spotless and comfortable. Best of all the staff are welcoming, helpful and thoughtful! I wonder if they can guess who I am (frequent visitor!) I don’t need 200 words! Excellent.

This is an elegant, well-appointed, traditional English hotel. Our street-side room was spacious, bright and clean with a comfortable bed and immaculate bathroom. The large garden is a delight. Service was friendly and efficient, location is five minutes' walk to town centre, and there is ample on-site car parking. Only breakfast (excellent) is served and the doors are locked at 9pm, making this more a B&B experience than a hotel. As such, prices are a little steep.

We were looking for a 5 star experience for a special anniversary. This was not it. Did not live up to description. The room was dusty, behind the bedside cabinets which I had to move to retrieve a dropped item. There were cobwebs in the bathroom. Standard of room cleaning poor. The included afternoon tea was stale and the staff attitude to our complaint was not good (but was refunded without saying anything). Breakfasts were good, staff there more pleasant. Reception staff indifferent. Area beautiful, may return but not to this hotel

From checking in to departure this is a superb hotel being well managed and extremely well located. The rooms are very comfortable and well equipped and the breakfast is delicious including wonderful kippers. I would put this in the top ten hotels I have stayed in over the last few years

My husband and I have just returned from A 2 night stay here, and loved it. We were worried in the lead up due to a couple of negative reviews, but needn’t have worried. We stayed in a large room with a little garden area, and the place was immaculate, plenty of room, excellent shower! And nice touches throughout (sloe gin, smeg fridge etc). The staff could not have been more helpful if they tried! (Including trying to help with some unusual requests due to me forgetting some things I needed for a function! Ha) Breakfast was delicious, with lots of choice in the continental, and a decent selection in the hot options. Parking wasn’t an issue either, and is included in the cost. Have knocked a point off purely for the state of the breakfast room (it is looking a tad tired, but will no doubt be addressed after the sale, and also for there not being any staff after 9pm) aside from these points, should we have anymore functions in the area, this will be our first choice! We would love to come back.

We stayed in a family room for a weekend. The hotel was sadly neglected: tired décor, shabby, and badly in need of money being spent. The restaurant only served breakfast and the staff disappeared at 9.00pm. The water pressure for the shower was very poor indeed and on the second morning of our stay there was no hot water at all coming into the bath or shower although there was plenty in the sink. In addition, there was an infestation of moths in the main bedroom. All in all, I hope someone buys the hotel and puts some money and better management into the project. At present, it feels as though the hotel is fast running down.
