Premier Inn Scarborough (South Bay)

First the positives. The room was very clean, comfortable and bathroom was obviously recently refurbished. Breakfast was excellent and good value, but more on that later. Now the not so good, or could do better! The check in policy is ludicrous, I understand they need to have a designated check in time, but whilst waiting (40 minutes) I overheard the staff clearly stating that all rooms were ready for guests, but as people were entering the reception they were informed that check was not possible until 3pm and they had to wait or pay £10.00 for an early check in! The result was a packed reception and when they did commence check in, due to a “new system “ it was painfully slow! Very poor customer service. The breakfast was good value, but the attitude of the cashier guy was poor at best, probably rude if to be defined. On approaching him I was asked “ breakfast for two “ to which I replied “ no there’s only one” to which he snapped “ well I’m not to know that!” Not expected and yes rude!

Lovely clean room. The shower was the best I have ever used. I have heard poor reports about budget hotels. But this is not the case. Excellent. And excellent staff at reception. Breakfast was very good. Would recommend this particular Premier Inn.

The hotel is in an excellent location for station, shops, parking and the beach. Check in was easy, friendly and informative. Our room on the first floor was clean, warm and comfortable. Looking out on to walls and an unkept area was not great but did not detract from the comfort. As per the hotels instructions I took the time to speak to reception on the second morning of our stay to request a room clean, as the bins were full and we had used the towels. After a day out we came back to find the room had not been touched. When I spoke to reception I was asked if ide seen my cleaning request actually written down on the rota. This seemed to refer that I hadn't actually requested the clean. But no I hadn't actually seen the request logged. I didn't know this was a guests role. However as the cleaning rota had apparently been thrown away it was irrelevant. I was given towels and rubbish bags. I was told to empty the bins myself and put the bag outside the room. I was also informed that clean cups would be delivered. But the person responsible for that would not be happy. I then requested a room clean for the following day. But was told requests could only be made the following morning. The restaurant was situated a long way from our room down what I found to be claustrophobic corridors. Which meant I didn't have breakfast which I usually enjoy when staying at Premier Inn. I would happily revisit if I saw reasonable rates.

Room 138 next to the main road was very noisy. But overall it was a nice hotel staff were pleasant and always helpful. Location is good for shops and beaches .Food in the pub was OK plenty of choice and good value for breakfast. Didn't have dinner but restaurant was very busy for Sunday lunch
