We enjoyed our visit and overall the hotel did its best. On the positive side, the staff was lovely and courteous, the grounds were nice enough, rooms were clean, they had lots of activities and events for guests, and the location was good. I don't like to be so critical and I swear i'm not that fussy, but I think there were some major flaws that could be addressed to significantly improve the property, and these are flaws are mainly on the corporate level. Specifically: 1. The hotel gives out free plastic, single serve water bottles, which is thoughtful of them since Savannah is so hot. But the problem is that the there were few, if any, opportunities to recycle them. Such a waste. The pool area had ZERO recycling containers, yet offered big tubs of free water bottles. When we asked a staff member about it recycling, he shrugged and said they don't recycle. There were a few recycling bins elsewhere on the property, but they weren't clearly marked, and people just threw garbage in them. Even if they were better about recycling, it's just too much plastic!!! PLUS, the nice bar area in the evening served drinks in plastic cups. In this time of climate crisis, it’s shocking and completely unnecessary since there are alternatives, and probably more cost effective ones. I sent a direct message to the hotel and received a very generic, canned response from Marriott which meant nothing. 2. The pool area is another problem. The pool is not big enough to accommodate all the guests at the hotel and people would go in the morning to reserve the pool chairs for the day even when they weren't there, so if you happened to go in the afternoon there was nowhere to sit. There is a solution though: build another pool in the clubhouse area by the golf course, where there's plenty of room-- an adult pool, better yet! Money should not be an issue since the CEOs and higher ups are way overpaid. Another big problem is that there are not enough umbrellas at the pool and those that are there do not move, so it's impossible to maintain shade for the whole day and the chairs are too tightly packed so you can't move them to fit into the shade of the umbrellas. 90% of the umbrellas are arranged so that you can never have shade. No thought at all put into that. 3. The restaurant always took forever to serve food. I don't fault the staff because they were hustling, and as I said, they were very courteous and accommodating. I assume they were understaffed. Can they not find enough staff or are they too cheap to hire more? Also even though it was hot when we were there it would be nice if they had some outdoor dining options, other than at the pool. The one outdoor area where you could bring food to sit and eat had large tables that with chipping paint and on two occasions there were no chair cushions so you couldn't sit there. It just didn't feel like a high end experience and I'm sorry to say I would not go there again. Please do better Marriott Bonvoy, there's
