Tropicana Hotel is the one of the best valued hotels in Santo Domingo. For one night you can get a decent room for $30 USD. You can upgrade for $40 for the night to a room with a decent view of the courtyard and pool. The hotel is a bit outdated however, it does preserve its old school charm. The location is not great, you will have to walk at least five or six minutes to reach the strip, but oh what a strip! full of life and music by the ocean strip (Especially Thurs, Fri, Sat). It is a good place if you are on a tight budget
