This is by far the worst Marriott brand hotel I have ever stayed at. I wish I would have done more research. The noise is unbearable, the freeway and street noise are so loud I barely slept the two nights I was there. The people above us made a tremendous amount of noise, it sounded like a herd of elephants and you can hear other doors shutting, too late now to be fixed. The road noise is by far the worst though. Unless you have hearing issues, take sleeping pills, or are truly a person who sleeps like they are dead I do not see how one can sleep. I consider myself a heavy sleeper. At home I don’t hear my spouse get up or our pets walking around at night but between the freeway and a/c it was impossible to get a decent night of sleep. The room is gross. This is a pet friendly hotel and it is evident. The couch was gross and smelled of unbathed dogs. There is a musty smell and they offer to spray with a perfume like substance and that too is gross. They don’t offer housekeeping daily. Why would you not clean daily if you accommodate pets?? As a pet owner, who does not take my pet to hotels, I vacuum daily and they need to do the same. The bed area is so tiny that you have about a foot between you and the wall depending on what side you sleep on. The sink area lighting is inadequate so if you’re a makeup wearer bring your own lighted mirror. I did not use any part of the kitchen based on the lack of cleaning of the rest of the room, I didn’t want to clean up dishes left not very clean from previous guests. I did have the breakfast downstairs, nothing great but also not horrible. However at 7:15 am on a Saturday they told me they were out of napkins and I could grab the paper towel from the hotel bathroom if I wanted. No thanks, how about some better planning as it is the weekend and surely someone must have noticed the night before they were almost out. Also better get down there early because they shut one of the doors of the food area a bit before the end time and don’t seem to care if they are running out of items. Another family member was staying there too, she asked for luggage rack and they told her it was by request. My room had one. She also had requested a certain type of pillow due to allergies. When she asked the front desk they said it was a request and that they could not accommodate as they had no more of that pillow type available. Not in the nicest manner either. They charge $5 a night for parking. There is no security provided for this fee. Just a way to nickel and dime. I have less of a problem paying $70 for a spot when I use a hotel in a major city. I understand that but not in San Marcos in an apartment/industrial neighborhood a stones throw from a freeway.
