Hotel Cielo y Selva, San Cristobal de las Casas

This was a beautiful hotel. It’s impossible to get an impression of the hotel from outside as the entrance is relatively low key. Once inside it a different story, there are so many features that make this an attractive place to stay. It’s an historic building within a short distance of the main square and numerous restaurants. We had a room on the first floor at the front of the hotel. There were two double beds, window looking out to the street outside. There was a writing desk / table, couple of chairs, TV, coffee machine and complimentary water. The bathroom was divided into an area off the bedroom with wash hand basin and through a door to the WC and shower. There was enough clothes hanging space. The hotel including our room was very clean and well presented. There are numerous places to sit and relax should you do wish. We ate breakfast on the first morning of two here but leaving before breakfast started on the second day we were given a packed lunch that was very good. The staff were outstanding. This is a place well worth considering if going to San Cristóbal de las Casas.

We stayed for 2 nights, used the restaurant and purchased 2 tours thru the reception. Very clean, friendly and accommodating staff. Daniel, the day shift receptionist is a friendly, helpful and willing to go out of his way to help with and issue that we needed help with (sites/tours/food/laundry). The adjacent restaurant has great food and staff. I wish we could stay longer but I am certain to be back to this place. I would not hesitate to recommend this establishment nor to stay again. Thank you!

Pros: Comfortable beds, attentive staff (though non-English speaking), on the 3rd floor there is a terrace overlooking the center of San Cristobal (but you can't imagine, how cold are there after sunset). The hotel has a Christmas spirit, was decorated with a REAL Christmas tree, inner yard was decorated with twinkling garlands lights and pinatas - it was nice. Cons: Barely functioning and constantly disappearing internet connection, all rooms in the hotel are without windows (some rooms has small window to inner yard, but not outside the hotel), claustrophobic room, there were no space at all. The room's door was full of holes and gaps - anyone can watch through these gaps to outside or inside (depends on a watcher's position - picture attached). There were no heater inside the room, so you can imagine how cold at night (considering door with gaps). Very poor and dim lighting in the room, we were missing better lightning. If you want to take hot shower, you must wait for 10-15 minutes until hot water will come. As there were no ventilation inside the room (also no windows), after using the shower everything inside the room becomes wet and humid. Breakfast was a joke: water, tea, coffee, juice, yoghurt, sliced ​​papaya, square toast and jam. You won't find there any cheese or ham (what is basic breakfast ingredients) or any other more serious food. The most funny, shocking and ridiculous moment: hotel is heating water for tea or coffee... in the microwave !!! I haven't seen anything similar before in my life!!! In the microwave, water never gets boiled and you are forced to drink only warm tea or coffee. Absurd comedy without any additional comment. All tours offered by the hotel were 100 pesos more expensive than you can get in the city center. The location of the hotel is not brilliant and well located: walk to the central square takes about 10-15 minutes. There are many accommodation options in much closer and nicer locations in San Cristobal.

Muy agradable las habitaciones muy limpias y cómodas el personal muy atento y amable en general muy bien todo

Tuve una situación de inseguridad, abrieron mi habitación cuando ya había realizado check in y me encontraba en mi habitación con mi novia, alguien abrió la puerta para darle acceso a 2 personas desconocidas, la persona que abrió mi puerta se identificó como la gerente y dijo que había abierto mi habitación porque las 2 personas desconocidas le dijeron que la habitación era de ellos pero que no tenían su llave, se me hace ridículo que no haya podido verificar que estás personas se identificarán y validar que no era su ha oración ya que yo no los conocía, además que mi habitación era para 2 personas, solo había una cama y no tenía nada de especial para que reclamarán justo mi habitación y hago hincapié en que yo ya había realizado mi check in y ya había ingresado a la habitación con mi novia. Esta situación me hizo sentir insegura y desconfiada ya que minutos más tarde bajé para confirmarle que no necesitaba darle mi llave a nadie más y pedirle que esa situación no se repitiera, a lo cual, esta persona, que se identificó como "la gerente" quiso responsabilizar al resto del personal lo cual fue muy desagradable ya que todos fueron muy amables y atentos,excepto la gerente, misma que al tratar de hablar con ella, no escuchaba, me interrumpía y parecía no entender la gravedad de la situacion, además de que me insistía que no le había pagado la habitación, misma que reservé y pague a través de Booking, es una lástima que la gerente arruine todo el buen servicio que el resto del personal ya nos había brindado.
