Courtyard San Antonio Airport

I am a Titanium member and travel/stay at Marriott properties over 100 nights a year. Had a 4 nights stay and due to a family emergency had to check out 1 night early. The hotel GM (Ruben) stated that this hotel charges early departure fees. He then asked if I had stayed at his hotel which I replied yes awhile ago but I stay in San Antonio every 2 to 3 weeks. He said there was nothing he could do and still charged me for a full night. No events were taking place and this was their standard practice. In 20 years of travel with both Hilton and Marriott, maybe 6 times I have needed to checkout early. I have NEVER been charged early departure free. I will NEVER stay at this property ever again and be warned if you have a family emergency or situation this hotel will still charge you an early departure fee. This hotel is desperate and take every penny they can from you.

Not becoming of a Courtyard. No hot water for shower and front desk, although nice, said no hot water is routine. Hallways and rooms smelled like dirty socks. The toilet handle has to be held down for three seconds in order to flush. The caulking in bathroom was shoddy and nasty to see when standing in a freezing shower at 4:30AM. Close to airport is the only redeeming quality of what is otherwise a dump.

When we travel we leave our car at the Courtyard in San Antonio. Upon returning from our last trip we found that the taillights had been stolen from our F-150 truck. Marriott not only refused to accept ANY liability for this $5000 repair but they refused to even cover our insurance deductible or refund our $180 parking charge. After using Marriott exclusively for over 30 years, that was our last stay with them. Jut be aware that Marriott assumes NO LIABILITY for any criminal losses on their properties.

Our early morning flight was cancelled and the airline gave us a complimentary room and vouchers at the Marriott. My wife called and spoke with Regina to see if we could get a very early check in. She said come on down we have a room for you, just call for the shuttle when you are ready. We were warmly welcomed by Svaitlanyia and settled into our very nice, clean and comfortable room. We ate both breakfast and dinner at the on-site Bistro. The food was excellent and we met Carlo the chef who, besides being a very nice gentleman, was an excellent chef who takes pride in his food. All in all, especially after the disappointment of our cancelled flight, this was a pleasant surprise.

Be careful they will nickel and dime you to death. There are parking fees, early departure fee (even if it is an emergency) and then they don't correctly give elite members benefits. The room is old, air conditioning didn't work and bathroom was not up to any marriott standards.

This property does not provide the Marriott quality of service. We were arriving late into San Antonio and reached out to the property to ensure airport shuttle pickup would be available upon our arrival. We were assured they would pick us up, we just had to call after retrieving our bags which we complied. We called and were directed to the pickup location after approximately 15 minutes we called again. We were told the driver should be there waiting, he wasn’t. The person on the phone stated we may have just missed him and he would ask the driver to return for pickup. We waited another 10 minutes, still nothing. We arranged an Uber pickup for a ride to the property. Upon arrival, we found the shuttle bus sitting in the drive. We entered to find a guest being assisted for check-in. The guest appeared to have been there for a while as the auditor “attempted” to check him in. The auditor apologized for the delay stating the “system was being slow, must be processing something”. Thirty minutes later, we finally received a room key, the Marriott app provide a “mobile key” function which provides a wireless key option to bypass the deck. We tried to utilize that feature but was never issued a mobile key. We asked the auditor about the feature and his response was that function doesn’t always work. We have used that feature at many Marriott properties on previous occasions. Before leaving the front desk we wanted to make sure the shuttle would be available during early morning hours. The auditor said it would and assured us it would be waiting for our scheduled departure. After our brief sleep, we showered; however, there was NO SHAMPOO OR BODY GEL in the pump bottles provided on the shower wall. Those bottles hold approximately 12 ounces of fluid. For them to be completely empty means that they had NOT Ben refilled for days. Upon our departure the shuttle was gone, it was not waiting for us as assured by the auditor. We had to schedule an Uber ride to the airport. I called to speak with the General Manager. He was apparently at a conference and would be unavailable for a week. I spoke to the front office manager who said there was nothing she could do in terms of compensation and that the GM would call upon his return. 2 weeks have passed and I have yet to hear anything from this property.

Having flights canceled, had an unexpected layover, and selected this property because it was close to the airport and had a shuttle service. The latter was okay on pickup but excellent on the other end (less than 10 minutes back to the airport from the hotel). The room was fairly spacious, including a desk and couch and a good-sized bathroom (with shower and plenty of water pressure and heat). They have a bar on site and offer some food. Several restaurants around within walking distance.

This hotel is clean from the guest rooms to lobby and elevators. Ms. Regina Alon was very helpful whenever we called to ask about our reservation. She greeted us with a smile and took her time to answer our questions when we arrived at the hotel and during our stay. I have stayed at other Marriott hotels especially the Marriott San Antonio Airport. The staff in this hotel offered excellent customer service in comparison to those we encountered at the Marriott San Antonio Airport. They were kind, patient, and actually were knowledgeable and provided answers to questions we had before and during our stay. I wish all hotels are staffed and trained to provide similar customer service and knowledgeable about their hotel from mobile check-in to how to provide a reservation upgrade when available. Staff at the Marriott San Antonio Airport who answer the phones and are the face of the hotel at the front desk have a lot to learn from those at this hotel especially from Ms. Regina Alon who continued to provide excellent service even when the front desk became really busy.

Overall this place is good. Full details in my review below: CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great service at this location...BUT, I had one issue that made me feel uneasy. The thing I was not too happy about is: as a solo female traveler, I was making a purchase from their shop. The front desk clerk asked me my name, after I gave it to her she said at a high volume "You're in XXX room, correct?" There were a bunch of men and other guests and whatnot waiting behind me in line and other people in the lobby across from the front desk. Again, a female solo traveler and you just shouted my room number out loud to a bunch of strangers. She could have easily said it at a low tone/whisper or asked to confirm my room number where I could have whispered it to her. I think the staff should keep these things in mind for privacy and safety reasons. Other than that I do like this location's staff. ROOM: I got the king size room. It was a nice-sized room. The one thing I did like is that there is a large desk area for me to work on. Plenty of lighting and a large tv for entertainment purposes - although I never used it. The wood furniture is a bit outdated, but I give them props to the little "modernization" that they have put towards the room. There is a mini fridge, but no microwave. If you need one, just call the front desk and ask and they will be more than happy to accommodate, which they did for me. They explained that since they are so close to the airport, most of their guests are overnight, so there's no need for a microwave. If you don't feel like asking, there is a microwave in the little shop in the lobby to use. If you get a room with a balcony on the 1st floor facing the parking lot, there is no gated separation. You (and anyone walking by the hotel) can walk up to your sliding glass door from the outside/public to your room. Same with the 1st floor balcony rooms that face the pool, but only guests and staff can walk up as the area is walled-off from the public. PROPERTY: The property itself is kept up pretty well. There is a private area not available for public access, which is a big plus for me as a solo traveler and I feel safer knowing that not just anyone can walk in, while I'm relaxing outside for some fresh air. There's a nice pool area and seating outside the pool gate with a fire pit, etc.. PARKING: You have to check-in first to get your room card. You will need this to enter into their parking area. Parking is a $10 fee per day, plus taxes. There's plenty of parking available and good lighting. RESTAURANTS: There's really no food options that I saw close by other than a McDonalds right next door. I ended up DoorDashing food my entire stay, if I didn't go out. AIRPORT NOISE: No matter if your room faces the pool or parking lot, you're going to hear the planes fly by as you are pretty much right next to the airport.
